remember....Live Hosts?

They're really NOT doing that are they?
 
They were supposedly casting for them, not sure if they started. Maybe for am or pm drive?
Have come across sim. stations with hosts like Bob FM in Virgiinia
 
Maybe they were in talks to lure away a popular Boston morning show to anchor an airstaff, and it fell through. I would think if you're going from jockless to jocked (is that a word?), you'd start with a morning show.
 
Based on the number of years that Mike FM has been on the air, I doubt that we'll ever hear live jocks on Mike FM. If there are ever live jocks, it probably will no longer be called "Mike FM."
 
From what I heard direct from the New Balance building is that Mike Morgan and Ron Valeri never had hard and fast plans to add personalities to the station... they were putting out feelers to see what was there, and to see if anything came in that popped. One of two things probably happened: either nothing popped, or Entercom has other plans for some FM shuffling.
 
Mike FM is maximized as much as a rimshot FM can be. Cume is high, overhead is low, ratings are decent, billings are solid. It will never do much better than it is ratingswise because of their limited signal. Why on earth would Entercom want to blow it up? To save WEEI? That's stupid! While WEEI has it's problems, last I heard they were still making money. Would putting WEEI on 93.7 mean more money than what Mike is bringing in? At this point, I don't think so. WEEI problems are more programming oriented. Putting the same tired shows (and the unlistenable M&M) on FM won't replace or exceed Mike's billing. It just doesn't make good business sense.

Some of the more successful Adult Hits stations around the US (and particularly Canada) do use jocks, so it's not out of the ordinary. WMKK is running the syndicated 80's-90's show "Foundcuts" show on Sunday nights which is hosted. It sounds like they'll put a jock on if they can find one with the sound their looking for, but will continue jockless if they can't.

I should have elaborated a little... I didn't necessarily mean kill Mike, but the possibility that Mike could move. Totally pure speculation, but I could see 97.7 being an option for Mike at some point. There's always that possibility that talent money would need to be spent at WEEI to get things going again, and that could cut into the overall Entercom Boston bottom line, preventing personality money for Mike. There are all sorts of possibilities. It sounds to me more like jocks would have been fun for Mike in the right situation, but they're not interested in going above and beyond for a station that's very much not broken at all.
 
Why would you want to replace Mike?

He is the perfect employee. Works 24/7, never complains, brings you good programming, decent ratings and lots of profit.
 
if they were going to ad Radio Host on their station, it would sound better if they change it to (My 93.7) like their sister station in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Or just change it to (93.7 The Point) make it an HOT AC station and go up against Mix 104.1, or make it a CHR station ("Power 93.7") and go up against KISS 108.
But like you all said, they have good ratings, and you can't fix what ain't broke.
They do however have a huge variety. They can do better by expanding their playlist by playing more new Country music and more new Urban AC music, but for now, they're great. I don't listen to them a lot, although I do sometimes put it on for ??? 15-20 minutes of my day just to see what they're playing.
Whatever their plans, I'm sure they will always be sucessfull
 
Shame is, as interesting a concept as it would be (live hosts), and challenging ( not to corrupt their successful format), putting that ad on the "trades" Job Listings was wrong. If they weren't actually going to do it.

Lots of qualified people out of work submitting their resumes, demos. Then nothing...
 
I agree, it is a shame!!!
I was listenning to them Saturday on the way in, listenning from Lynn to East Boston (By Bus and Train) a good 30-40 minutes, all I heard was Classic Rock and Roll. Then, when I got to Alston/Brighton area, listenning on the bus (10 minute ride) all I heard was, again (Classic) Rock and Roll.
All the time I listen, they always play Rock and Roll, latest and old. They say they play everything, so they need to play (Everything) New Urban AC, New AC, New HOT AC, New Country, New Soft Dance Music.
 
they need to either add more music to their playlist, or change to HOT AC and go up against Mix 104.1, and in this case play some, not all, play some New Urban AC music such as new Freddie Jackson, Fantasia, Charlie Wilson musicm and play some New Soft Country Music and New Soft Dance Music. There's got to be something else they can play other than all Rock and Roll
 
look at Alice 105.9 in Denver, they're HOT AC, look at My 107.9 in Indianapolis, Indiana, they're mostly HOT AC, they do play some Classic Rock, and a few Oldschool Urban AC music.
Mike FM should add some more music to their playlist or change formats. Wayy to many rock and roll music
 
Nobody, but NOBODY with any brains at all. is
going to blow up a station/format that makes money.
Maybe they have actually heard what passes for
music these days and know that it is CRAP.

i guess the KOMPADIREK on radio Vision Star does not qualify as music. so point taken

the emperor is dancing.

WZBC needs a 24/7/365 NCP FM channel. consider it a spin on the Mike concept
