Mike Frazer

Word on the street is that longtime afternoon host Mike Frazer has been let go from 3WS after 36 years, presumably as part of another round of iHeart layoffs. Mike was not only one of the longest-tenured but also one of the most talented people in Pittsburgh radio. Val Porter is now doing the PM shift with Jonny Hartwell now solo in AM drive. I like Val, and I’m glad they could keep afternoons local (many iHM classic hits stations have tracked PM drive shows, even in markets as big as Cleveland), but Mike’s energy and enthusiasm will certainly be missed.

I met him at car show where he was doing a remote broadcast and asked if he missed "Energy 105" - a much hyped high energy CHR format that replaced the late lamented WYDD and lasted all of about nine months. I think that was his last gig before 3WS.
He got a big laugh about the fact anyone remembered that station and we chatted about radio for a while. Really nice guy.
