Gallagher To Broadcast From Controversial Cheesesteak StandSALEM's MIKE GALLAGHER is heading to PHILADELPHIA to do his show from GENO'S STEAKS, the center of a controversy over owner JOEY VENTO's posting of a sign reading "This is AMERICA... when ordering SPEAK ENGLISH." GALLAGHER will do WEDNESDAY's shows- his local KSKY-A/DALLAS show 6-9a CT, and his SALEM syndicated show 9a-Noon ET) from the popular SOUTH PHILLY landmark. VENTO appeared on GALLAGHER's show TUESDAY and also appeared on CBS RADIO's OPIE AND ANTHONY show to defend his right to post the sign, which has prompted a discrimination complaint from the PHILADELPHIA city Commission on Human Rights. GALLAGHER airs in PHILLY on SALEM's WNTP-A.

Except Salem's WNTP bumps Gallagher to overnights (two hours only - 12 to 2 am) in favor of Laura Ingraham in late mornings. Gallagher is head in the region on WNPV, Lansdale (two hours only - 1 to 3 pm) and WILM, Wilmington (one hour only - 3 to 4 pm). These clearances may be an indication of Gallagher's own syndicator's regard for his program.

WNTP has the great distinction of being a 50Kw station with similar ratings as WHAT.Gallagher is a ham-tongued low-rent Limbaugh.I thought O&A had material. They have to put this guy on?

I think Mr. Vento is 100 correct in his attitude toward these mostly Hispanic border jumpers. I am behind him, if the briefcase bandits and media owners felt the same way, radio would not be in the SORRY shape its in today, all these Spanish formatted stations is unexcuseable. This never happened in the mid 1900's, when you had a variety of European immigrants pouring in, they had nothing in their own language to listen to, and if so, it was on a part-time basis. Now, if you no si habla espaneol', you get not-ting. As far as Mr. Vento's ancestery, his people had to learn English before they were allowed to participate in anything, and were constantly ridiculed for Speaking broken English, did they have anyone to fight for them, NO. Now-adays, you have to learn Spanish or sink, I heard they added YET another Spanish station to Comcast digital, 251 TELEF whatever, that adds to the more than 20 Spanish language music channels they trash in. Why is AMERICA catering to this one brand of ethnic group, with radio, television and otherwise???

Jeez and I thought your attention was only focused on black folks :.Anyway I also agree with Vento... It's his establishment he would like people to order in english I see nothing wrong with that.The reason they add spanish stations is because IT IS PROFITABLE... You think there is some higher power at work constantly when it's only the almighty dollar.

To KlassiKKountyNotice the three "K's".)Before you criticize other people's use of the English language, maybe you should look at how you use it. Even allowing for typos, your grammar, punctuation and syntax do not put you in a position to take shots at anybody else.To Others (you know who you are):I don't see how you can keep jumping on Julius while tolerating this guy and his obsessions with: WURD and Black radio in general; Spanish-language radio; Comcast; Ed Rendell; and Urban music formats v. Rock. Julius may fixate on a few topics (so do most of us; he who is without sin can cast the first stone), but he doesn't preach hate or have an unkind word to say about anybody. Sorry, but I don't it.

FYI......Get your facts right. We did broadcast Gallagher live this morning from Geno's, pre-empting Laura Ingraham for the day. The Geno's broadcast will be replayed tomorrow morning in Gallagher's usual time slot from 12A-3A.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know

So, how come you guys don't take Gallagher live every day?Your company produces and distributes the show. This does not show a lot of confidence in your own product.Or is TRN doing "Pay to Play" to get Laura Ingraham cleared here live?For the record, WILM carried the live feed of Mike Gallagher (and then replayed the show at the usual time) when Gallagher came to Wilmington to promote his book. He even appeared at a bookstore. Being around books was certainly a novel experience for so many of his listeners. It must have been fascinating to see his fans standing in the autograph line, paging through his book, with all their lips moving. :Gallagher fans chomping on cheesesteaks is less of novelty. Of course, most of his fans in this area probably are from around Lansdale.

Two reasons why we don't broadcast Gallagher live from 9-Noon:1. The Gallagher program is already being run during the day on two regional radio stations (WILM and WNPV). 2. We have been quite happy with the results we have been getting from Laura.By the way: no - TRN is not a pay to play; and, yes - we have every confidence in Gallagher, as well as all of our other hosts.Finally, you're denegration of Gallagher listeners is a bit arbitrary and caprisious. Do you have definitive, reliable demographic information to back up that statement?

You know, I seem to recall a station where I grew up in CNJ in the 70s-WRLB. Was an FM station (107.1) in Long Branch. I remember mostly Italian Programming. I also remember WEVD out of New York, which featured programming for a Jewish audience. And so what. These formats didn't exist without the ability to sell airtime to sponsors. If you want to go back in time and make the situation for Spanish Speaking Americans more 'apt' for assimilation, you might want to study Quantum Physics. Since I don't see that happening, why not go and take up Spanish, and English as a Second Language for American-Speaking People?Right now, the current state of the nation is a lot of people speak Spanish. Radio and TV want to sell to that market. Before a particular 'niche ethnic radio and TV' was viable, people were sold RECORDS in their old country language (I know, my parents had a ton of 'em) So, would you've outlawed another form of media to support a consistent xenophobic argument? Would you have done it in the past with your own parents? After all, it is a devotion of resources to something 'not inherently American'.

He was looking for some way to screw Pat's, get some free publicity and sell more artery-clogging sandwiches. He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams: write-ups have even appeared in Beijing, China's daily newspaper. God bless the inventive American entrepreneur that is embodied by Joey!(By the way, have any of you ever travelled abroad, made a phonecall and been offered "for English, press 1"? In my travels to most of Western Europe, the non-English-speaking Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America...I never have!)

I don't think he is doing it for publicity, He is also a big supporter trying to fry the "CONVICTED" cop killer Mummia, aka (this is Mr. Cole WPEN news, before he went Muslim). Big accomplishment.The guys who own and run Salem Communications are alumni of Bob Jones University, the school was too reactionary even for Billy Graham. They out to serve God and mammon. Their God is right wing and their news-talk stations exist to promote a social conservative theocracy (and make money). Like Air America Radio, these people are true believers. The only difference is, Salem wants to make money (a sign of God's favor) and Air America Radio only cares about the "cause" (as long as it can find rich backers). No, they will never run anything remotely liberal. Nor should they from a programming viewpoint; mixed bag political talk does not work - has never worked.
