We hardly (re)knew ye...

Apparently some project he was working on here (unrelated to radio) didn't pan out, so he's headed back to the East Coast for good.

I was hoping for an eventual return to the TV news anchor desk for him. He's the type that could step in for an aging Tracy or Mike Snyder without a hitch.

An "aging" Tracy is still twice as good as either Mike -- hands down.

Hambrick was ok at best, Tracy has always been a class act across the board.

Nah, don't get me wrong. Some folks are not replaceable, but Hambrick has a lot of the right elements to make a smooth segue into any anchor position, like delivery, ability to ad-lib, ability to show & deliver proper emotion, a nose for news, and of course, looks. We also haven't seen what he can do, visually, since he left Channel 11 in the 1990s. He went on to network affiliates in DC and elsewhere since, and surely honed his skills there along the way. For me, I use Chip Moody as the benchmark of what an anchor at the top of his/her game should be, and I see elements of that in people like Hambrick, and Jeff Brady at Ch 8, and perhaps even Justin Farmer as he matures into the position over the next few years.

Point is, Tracy and Clarice and others past 50 won't be anchoring forever, and I'd rather see competent, qualified people take their places, instead of whoever will work for the least money, and are qualified by their photogenic-ness instead of their newswriting and delivery abilities. The worst thing you can do for a newscast is to keep a revolving door of "test" anchors. Credibility and loyalty go right out the door.

Tracy is in this business for his son right now, to make sure he's taken care of after he has retired and passed from this existance. One of the reasons brought up in the written press concerning his leaving 'FAA was the fact they wouldnt setup a trust for his son. The way I see it, Tracy had every right to ask for that, seeing the countless hours he put in for Belo under the great Marty Haig.
