Mike Huckabee Daily Feature: What Have You Heard?

What kind of inventory is ABC asking to clear this?

Not sure how many successful n/t stations are willing to give over both AM and PM drive spots for this unproven feature,
especially those that air network talk in PM drive - a five-minute feature drains the entire "toh" break!

It would have to be a reall "tune in" for listeners to be worthwhile - brining NEW listeners (as Paul Harvey did for years)
not just pleasing current listeners.

I think its a smart move because some stations will take the Mike Huckabee sketch. When the day does come that the Paul Harvey broadcasts do end for good, it will be just as easy for these stations (most of which AREN'T news/talk stations) to slide the Huckabee reports in.

I think ABC really does have him in mind as a replacement in waiting, much like Jimbo Fisher is to Bobby Bowden.

Re: Meet the non-candidate Mike Huckabee

It will be interesting to see how Mike positions his show. As a candidate wanting to carry the torch for Republicans, he had to stay conservative enough to satisfy the "Right Wing BASE" of the party. Not that I have any expectation to see him do anything that would come near to a label of liberal, where will he base his ideology for the show?

Of course he could be trying to position himself for the election four years from now.

Those who've been around for awhile may remember the five-minute Ronald Reagan commentaries in the late 70s..I believe he was replaced by Barry Goldwater.

It's too bad the distinction between 'politician' and 'commentator' is disappearing.

It's scary that having a talk show may now be considered a viable route to high political offices.

WHY is that "disappointing?"

It's making good use of current ways to reach people. People like this have had NEWSPAPER columns for years.

TV and Radio talkers now survive by preaching to pretty much just their own choir. That's hardly good training for representing a varied constituency.

Name all thd writers of newspaper columns who went on to be candidates for political office.

Pat Buchanan is one. There are others going back to Eleanor Roosevelt.

Unlike "the old days" of radio networks, all those Fox Network and EIB
network commentators can now get their opinion out alot easier, without getting edited by any local middle man, and bias to your personal viewpoint can run rampant.

Brian76, Who needs "training" when you can easily talk to the exact group who will "buy your slant" on things?

Mr Goat, I'm an old fart. So, with lots of respect, to all of you boys and girls, if you want to find "all the writers of newspaper columns who went on to be candidates for political office" you may Google yourself.

I have done all the homework I needed to do a long time ago and graduated w/an MA.

Most of us who gather here for these conversations probably have some skills in the area of the spoken word. Even the hobbyists, the enthusiasts who have not received a paycheck in this business enjoy listening to the spoken word. One of the reasons I choose to freely participate in Internet forums is to help craft my ability in the area of the printed word. You can't see the gleam in my eye you would see... maybe even hear if there were an audible conversation.

When I get through with this forum I am going to check my charts for phases of the moon. Based on the conversations today (Saturday is usually a slow day!) here and in a broadcast engineers forum, and a couple of church related forums, I presume the new moon is upon us or soon will be. ;D

I do not plan to ever use my age as a reason to quit doing homework. It can be a lot of fun. Now if it suits your fancy to have an Old Farts Pissin Match, reach for your six shooter. My first time to set foot in a radio station must have been about 1947. My first time to crack open the mic and get paid for it week after week was the first week of June in 1956. We may have been classmates, my friend.

Sorry you are going through a bad phase.

And, I'm sorry I got your goat (so to speak). I really don't need a urination contest, either. It would certainly stain the carpet worse than a rodeo.

My first flip of the mic switch was on a Gates Yard about 10 years after you began. What may be fun to you, is not to me. The forums should allow us to see that there are many viewpoints. Some people enjoy Pepsi, some Coke, and some Vernor's or Kayo. Some people chose McCain and some Obama.

What some of us may learn, as we participate in many internet forums (as I do, as well) is, that we all have opinions. But, because of many variables, like experience, education, politics, religious background, friends and family values, even our particular taste, opinions may not all be the same. However, despite our personal beliefs, in a free society, these opinions all have some value.

That's life.

I am surprised there isnt some sort of a backlash as a result of this. Was it Mike Huckabee who "suggested" that those who have HIV/AIDS be "shipped off to another country" and/or those who have HIV/AIDS have their names available online ( the same way child sex offenders are ) for those who want to know who in their community has HIV or AIDS? In other words according to Huckabee (if I remember correctly ) you have a right to know if you neighbor has HIV even if ( of course ) you have NO desire to get involve with that person sexually.

I am NOT ( PLEASE NOTE THAT ) saying that Huckabee indeed did say this but I do remember the news media about year ago making this big deal about Huckabee and those with HIV/AIDS. Just surprised ABC doesn't remember that.

And one dumb statement should automatically disqualify him (or anyone for that matter) to do radio commentary? Get real here.

I asked the questiona about the 2008 RADIO FEATURE and (like most online board chat) it quickly became:
1- a political discussion
2-a discussion about yourselves

Geez - are there any WORKING RADIO PROFESSIONALS who care to weigh-in on the viability of Huckabee's daily
features (they want AM and PM) and the price ABC is asking to clear it?

Other than n/t stations (especially conservative ones) - why would music stations want this?

-PP

Sorry for the politics, but Huckabee is always on the media, especially Fox News. In the current angry environment, unless you are in a RED state or have room around Rush or Hannity, I'd stay away. HE IS into current politics.

If you are a "music station" WHY would you want to take time away from music and get half your audience angry? Find some music feature that fits your format.
