Mike Huckabee dropping The Huckabee Report

He announced this morning that May 1 would be his last day.

He has been talking about premium content you can't hear on the radio for subscribers only. Now apparently he only wants subscribers.

Well, if a man who has enough money and doesn't need more wants to be greedy, then the one man who has a pleasant manner of presenting views I need to be persuaded to agree with will no longer influence me. It will serve him right if I turn into a liberal.

I was asking for help in listening to some of his recent broadcasts that either didn't air on my station due to sports or human error, or didn't get heard by me when I didn't watch the time closely enough.

And the librarian who couldn't offer any solutions immediately said, when I said his broadcasts would soon be only for subscribers, that it must have been to raise money for the campaign.

His running is news to me because he didn't seriously suggest on his show that he would.

He really couldn't as that would've prompted a claim for equal time by competitors. He's going to announce on May 4th.

Mike Gallagher is picking up the slots vacated by 'The Huckabee Report'.

BTW, my last post was directed at JeffM, not you, vchimp.

I don't know who Mike Gallagher is but if I don't like him I won't listen. It's not the opinions but the person.

I was hoping for Gil Gross or Doug LimericK or, even better, reruns of Paul Harvey's "Rest of the Story".

Matter of opinion. I like Huck and thought he was very good on TV and radio. I think his radio program (not The Huckabee Report, the three hour program) would've done reasonably well if not slotted against Rush.

I don't know why people at my radio station can't seem to do anything right.

For weeks now the Monday morning show has been a rerun of something from Friday. I thought this would be a good thing after last Friday afternoon when they had a baseball game which ended five minutes late. It would have been easy to air Mike Huckabee at that time. Don't they have a button that has been in use since the Janet Jackson incident and can't that button let them air a show a few minutes late instead of a few seconds? But that episode didn't even air. What I heard this morning was a rerun, all right, but it was something I had already heard. of course, the past several weeks it has been obvious because on Monday he's saying "This is The Mike Huckabee Report for Friday". And yet I go to one of the sites that has the broadcasts and the Monday morning broadcast is never a rerun from Friday. I should have demanded they fix things long ago. Today was the last one, but the site has nothing from after the first week of March and a whole month's worth of episodes missing. And given that he's going to charge for everything (and I won't pay!) starting next week, he has no concern about making things right for those of us who miss the episodes that are paid for by LifeLock.

He isn't even trying. Or someone is messing up.

This morning's broadcast was a repeat of yesterday morning.

Does that mean he's too lazy to do another new one, or is someone messing up? And he cares nothing about making sure we get our podcasts because he's about to make money.

Careful! I posted recently about the sloppiness of airing outdated material and I was immediately slammed by the usual suspects who believe that management can do no wrong.

Today I heard a "Tech Trends" feature on a Cumulus station that proclaimed, "April Fool's day is almost here."

These aren't isolated incidents ... it's become a way of life. Clearly nobody gives a s**t.

Today's broadcast, instead of "This is the Mike Huckabee Report", ended with "This is Mike Huckabee saying farewell." It was mostly a normal broadcast with news such as the Baltimore riots. He did mention how much he has enjoyed bringing us these broadcasts for six and a half years, but that you could still hear him online. He conveniently ignored that you have to pay. I've been "paying" with LifeLock and other commercials. My cousin was annoyed by those when we would listen to podcasts, but I said that was normal for me. How did she think they were paid for, I asked?

And I still have to wait for my cousin to visit to hear some podcasts because I still haven't figured out how to listen to some of them. Others are on other web sites.

This morning's was a rerun of yesterday morning's (tomorrow is the last day, he said), even though the regular morning DJ was there. When was the last time he was there on a Friday? It has been a month since he finished the process of moving the new owner's second radio station into the same building. Yesterday afternoon's was a rerun of the previous afternoon's. I hope I don't find out that someone at the station did something wrong. By going to the web site with some of the broadcasts, I discovered that there were no reruns of Friday's broadcast on Monday morning. At least in the ones I checked.

And yesterday the morning DJ said it was "awkward" not having Mike Huckabee on after all these years. He didn't mention Paul Harvey had been on the station at that time for years before that, though I don't know how many years. Back in 1994 when O.J. was acquitted, I was listening to him on another station, though I had heard him on the station I listen to now simply because on some days, I happened to be in the car when the midday broadcast was on, at a time of day when I could usually hear good music. I don't know how long ago that was, though. And I assume he had his morning broadcast on that station at the same time as the station where I normally heard him.

... which is a GOOD thing

In this case, it's a worse thing.

And Huckabee has announced.

Gross and Limmerick are OK as straight news readers but they were no where near adequate fill-ins for Paul Harvey. The only one who ever came close was Paul Jr. I always suspected old Paul didn't want anyone filling in who might seem like real competition. When anyone else did the show, there were major tune-outs.

Besides, Huck, other talk show hosts who ran for president....

Ronald Reagan
Pat Buchanan
Herman Cain
Alan Keyes
Al Sharpton

Fred Thompson filled in for Harvey AND ran for president.

I still hear Doug Limerick do the news nearly every morning. He's good at it.

I wish someone would do reruns of "The Rest of the Story" that could run in the Huckabee slot.
