Mike Huckabee To Launch Radio Show

I wonder if they'll repeat Huckabee 3-6p? Does Hannity have any REAL competitors ?

With XDS repeats are not nearly as important anymore...it's kind of like a DVR device and you can record at any time and then play it back.

To your point...that 3-6 daypart is dominated by Hannity and stations that are still able to afford local...he may be a good product to place against Hannity.

Didn't Huckabee "grandfather" Paul Harvey's daily updates when he retired?

Ramsey: One of his most recent affiliates is New York's WOR... And he does pepper some of his financial advice with conservative-tinged commentary, so I suppose he's somewhat of a comeptitor to Hannity in that regard...

Actually he peppers his financial advice with a large dose of religiosity -- a technique used by folks ranging from Jimmy Swaggart to Glenn Beck to build a loyal, receptive fan base.

In the case of financial salesmen, the technique of choice is to constantly spout the most basic true-isms -- "don't max out your credit cards, you should fully fund your IRA," etc. etc. This engenders trust. Once you have the audience's trust you can sell them anything! Sonny Bloch was a master at it on WABC and later on WOR.

I'm not suggesting that Dave Ramsey is an outright fraud like Sonny Bloch (who eventually fled the country) but take a look at his website. It's a web store. Nothing wrong with that but listeners should be aware that his primary motive is to sell his own products, not to entertain.

Note that WOR's official statement upon dumping Glenn Beck mentioned that they were concerned about the increasing religious aspect of his presentation. Now they're welcoming Dave Ramsey to WOR. Money talks.

Negative- Michael Savage would be bumped to 12-3 nationwide.....!

They have a built in replacement if they need him.

They do?

I cannot imagine ANYBODY would consider a wholesale replacement of Rush Limbaugh with (drum roll please...) MIKE HUCKABEE!

You've got to be kidding. Why is anyone discussing this seriously? He is entirely unproven.

He'll likely end up as successful as Fred Thompson.

I actually had heard talk about 18-24 months ago that TRN was considering moving Savage up to 12-3p. The move would be very interesting from the standpoint that he would be a valid competitor to Rush but it would leave a huge hole at night...and Savage (love him or hate him) has done VERY well in that 6-9p slot. Talk about a guy who has endured many a controversy that people thought would end his career...

Paul Harvey didn't retire. He just died.

The 8:30 shows replaced Harvey's after a couple of tryouts for other hosts in the slot. He also took over the noon slot but Huckabee's show was shorter, and the 3:06 slot, which was not usually a "Rest of the Story" type story, but something similar to the 8:30 and noon shows. I noticed the holiday shows were the same at 8:30 and 3, and if my station's morning DJ took the day off, I had to go to the web site to find that out. But the 3:06 shows were automated anyway. I know this because the same glitch takes place every single day.

Right... you know what I meant... But I do recall the likes of Huckabee and Gil Gross "auditioning" for one of Harvey's segments upon his death/departure...

I thought I read that Clear Channel paid WOR to carry Beck (just like they do now with Coast To Coast).
