Mike Lewis gone?

Posting on another board tells a story of Mike Lewis being taken out of WNEP on Friday by security?

Any news?

He's still listed on WNEP's website.... but then again, we all know how well stations keep their websites updated. <gulp>

Doesn't Mike go to Nashville once or twice a year for a few weeks to work on his next album?

What I heard tonight was that Lewis was told his contract was not being renewed. He then requested a 2 week "vacation" to look for a new job, after which he would return to fulfill the remaining 2 weeks of his contract. More personnel cuts and other cutbacks are on the horizon for the staffers at the big w.

Let's face the fact that the station has been the star at 16 for the past 20 years. Mike Lewis is a good anchor, but the numbers remain strong because of the overall station effort at promotions, community outreach and branding. Can they cut Mike and bring in a younger male anchor at half the cost? Yes! Will it impact ratings? N0!

The latest that I heard was when he heard his contract was not being renewed, he took a two week vacation to fing a new job. He is supposed to return to finish out the final two weeks of his soon to expire contract. ...just what I heard.

Lewis needs to work on pronouncing those "L"s.

Tom Brokaw got away with the same thing for years.

My sources tell me Mike was let go because he wanted only to come in and read the news, not write like everyone else. Money may have been a factor too. But when your contract is up, I think that last thing you want to do is become a Prima Donna.

I guess with former GM Renee gone, his "in" was gone.

His "in" was the New York Times...Not Renee. He was originally sent here to work out a no-compete clause in Norfolk, VA. After the clause was up, he was supposed to go back..but he decided to stay here. Now Snedeker's full time morning gig was due to Renee.
