Mike Macklin to WBZ-AM

The Inside Track in today’s Boston Herald is reporting that former TV street reporter Mike Macklin is heading to WBZ-AM as an anchor and reporter.

They have cut back their news operation and had multiple layoffs; why are they hiring?

I can only hope that things aren’t as dire at WBZ as originally thought and this hiring is a sign of better things to come. How can a station ID itself as a news station and have canned news reports after 8 p.m.?

Trying to clear payroll and hire cheaper talent is dire enough, isn't it? If they could have got away with dumping early morning talk they would have done that too. Good luck to Mike.

There ought to be a fair bit of resentment at Macklin's hiring from out-of-work radio people. He's an unemployed, vindictive TV guy waltzing into a radio station and being 'given' a job. Talk about 'groveling.'
