Mike Marino is out as PD of KHHT

Haven't seen this reported elsewhere yet. You sure?

It would be surprising, as Marino is/was one of Michael Martin's boys.

R&R has it - stating that after three years at the helm of Hot 92 Jamz, Mike Marino is giving up the PD reins. He will now invest his focus full-time on his prep service, BitXChange. R&R also reports that he'll remain at Hot to help find his replacement.

Well you might think I'm crazy in saying this. But if Radio-One is smart. They should
snatch him up while he is available. He know's the UAC business.

Marino was a horrible pd. Hot has sucked his entire time there. Playlist was too tight, jocks had little chance to be creative, sound like themselves or even speak. He was a micro-manager who strangled this stations true potential. Maybe this station finally has a chance to grow. Good riddance. Bring on the new Hot 92.3.

Mike did a great job. The station was a consistent performer 25-54 and did an excellent job reaching the multi-ethnic melting pot of Los Angeles - actually having one of the best balanced ethnic comps in the entire market.

Hot was never dominant in any demo. Hot did not bill, until recently when Star was in the dumps, as much as its sister stations with lower ratings.

If he did such a great job why are Hot's ratings in such a tail spin?

What will Hot be remembered for? NOTHING. There is NOTHING special about this station. And no station copies it.

Hot 92.3 HD-2 about a year ago was a MUCH better sounding format than it's big sister. A better playlist, good and great jocks and best of all, it wasn't programmed by Marino.

I wouldn't call it a tail spin, but the numbers may be down due to KMVN.

Radio One tried. Their problem was they insisted on the "black" part a bit too much(and still do)

I heard it. Sometimes it's good, sometimes so so. I give someone credit for playing a little classic soul.

An old PD of mine from another station felt the same, he thought mike stole his job when Hot was still Mega 92.3. He told me that Mike's idea was to change Mega's name to Caliente 92.3 rather than Hot. Of course they fired my old PD put Mike in charge of what is now HOT 92. My old PD was also the only reason why Art Laboe is on Hot 92, mike was the first to dissagree on that idea.
