Mike & Mike: Mike Hill & Mike Smith

this is the time of year when ESPN attempts to integrate their B and C or more likely fading former A level talent into replacement fill in slots.

it sometimes works... russillo, gottlieb (long time ago) and sometimes it doesn't... almost everyone else. linda cohn and mike salk (who i actually like) were brooo-tull last week.

as july 4th fades each year, i crack up when each show starts with replacement host(s). especially when linda cohn, john ireland, the galloway sidekick or whomever is hung out to dry as the latest ESPN stab at "chemistry catalyst" fails miserably.

i guess mgmt always needs to fill vacation time but its really tough on the ears when the latest smith/hill combo is forced to work.

i never listen to rome anymore but i remember him having some variety when he takes a holiday. too bad ESPN has to simply shill its own into uncomfortable roles.

on reflection, i actually like it in a train wreck spotting kind of way.

With Hill's regular on-air partner, Mark Schlereth, expected to take over as host of "SportsNation" next year, I guess it doesn't hurt to try out some new on-air duos... And if Mike Hill and Mike Smith end up getting a regular show, I wonder if they're going to call it "Mike & Mike 2" or "The Other Mike & Mike"? ::)
