Mike Salk leaves WEEI

As usual, I disagree with Finn. Salk got a raw deal. Just because he wasn't Ordway doesn't mean he was bad. I hope he has better people to work with in Seattle.

Salk leaves WEEI

He did a decent show with Michael Holley, but you don't want to be the guy to replace Ordway.

Salk

Salk got a raw deal. Not that it should be surprising this is Entercom. It would be interesting if Ordway could be heard and the once proud EEI pm-drive dropped to third place?

I hope the move will allow WEEI to return to what made them great; to borrow a cliche, I hope they go "back to basics." To me, Salk represented the type of sports talk that I hear in my home market and that I often hear on national sports talk shows. The conversation too often veered off of sports, and into pop culture. For example, discussions of Michael Jackson's best song, or getting a good haircut - which often drag for long periods - were not common in WEEI's heyday. I hope that WEEI can recover.

I don't know what EEI can do at this point. I'd try putting Dennis on PM drive, and see if I could simulcast or rebroadcast Ordway somehow, thus being innovative and keep that bridge open.

6-10: Gerry, Mikey, Kirk
10-2 Holley
2-6 Dennis & Dale
6-9 rebroadcast Big Show "filtered"

That's not a bad idea. I don't think they want to cut ties to Merloni though so I might included him in the pm-drive. Holly --to save $$$-- can fly solo.
I don't know if a Big_O rebroadcast of his new deal is possible? They'd also have to use a kill button on any foul language.

Looks like Salk's family chimed in with the "unregistered" comments. lol

The guy was terrible. I'm no fan of Felger & Mazz as a radio show, but Salk was deadly -- like a talk-radio cliche with overly smooth transitions, cliched topics and his general persona. Like Finn said, he sounded like he was from a different market, even though he's a Boston guy. He will not be missed -- one more bad decision from the old regime of WEEI.

Dumping him was a good move, but they've got to do something with the horrid 10-2 show (Mutt and Lou) which is nearly as awful.

Note my schedule, those 2 are mia. Weekends and fill-ins at most. Salk seems like an ok guy but was put in a losing position. He also didn't play into the D & C b*ll busting, seemed primadonna-ish. The main problem I see is that there aren't many options for well known established local sports personalities unless you want Lobel and Ryan.

Note my schedule,
It's not bad but I don't know about the possibility of a Big_O rewind (unlikely). I'd probably replace Dale with Lou-- and someone else-- for PM drive with Dennis.

I will give you the major reasons Mike Salk was not embraced by WEEI listeners..........coming up NEXT on this site

Make Mike Lynch an offer he can't refuse to leave WCVB and host on WEEI. He is the best interview in sports and would get ratings. Only way to save that station.

Mike is 60 now and has little interest in radio. He filled in at the old WITS years ago and was good.

Short term solution for them - hire Bob Ryan.
