Mike Schweizer, broadcast telephony and remote contract engineer passed away in hospice

Mike passed away on Tuesday, June 14, at the end of his 8 week stay in Hospice. EBie and I spent a lot of quality time with him and are doing okay. We are sad but relieved that his suffering is over.

There will be a party to honor his life and memory on Sunday, June 26th. If you'd like to attend, please email me at [email protected] and I'll send you the details.

Mike asked that donations be made to FightColorectalCancer.org or KPOO-FM in San Francisco if you are so inclined.

Mike was one of a handful of real experts when it comes to Telephony in the broadcast field. I am proud to have worked with him as a colleague, and as a friend. Mike was involved in every Telephony product launch I was involved with while I was at Telos. He has made a difference in many products and many stations.

When I suggested Mike as a Series 2101 commissioning engineer, I knew he would be great for those jobs. However he implemented certain things that proved he had mastered the system and had gone beyond what myself and the designers had envisioned!

I know he considered me a telephony mentor, but I don't know if he realized I considered him the same.

I am happy that Mike's suffering is over, but I know I will miss him terribly.

Mike also was critical resource for a number of mutual colleagues/stations and his passing leaves a void in our industry.

Mike was a colleague of mine while I worked in San Francisco between 1986 and 2003. He was the classic 'engineer's engineer' and was the go-to-guy with all questions related to telco...our industry has definitely suffered a loss with his passing. He was also the independent 'remote guy' that so many of us hired to get us out of jams related to short notice, telco troubles, etc. Never once did he fail me.
