Mike Shannon, the KMOX announcer for St. Louis Cardinals baseball, died this morning at 83.
Shannon played for the Cardinals, debuting in 1962 and retiring after the 1970 season. He played behind hall of fame pitcher Bob Gibson on the 1968 World Series champion team. He worked for many seasons with Jack Buck on KMOX, and together they were the voices of the Cardinals for 30 years until Buck's death in 2001. Shannon himself retired after the 2021 season.
Shannon also hosted the interview program "Live at Shannons" on KMOX for many years.
