Mike Sheridan leaving Metro

I know a few of us kind of grazed over this in the Hall of Fame subject, but does anybody have any clue as to what happened to Mike Sheridan at metro traffic? I don't want to pry into personal matters or invade privacy or anything, but the last I heard was that he quit shortly after coming back from vacation.

For a guy who's been the voice of traffic in Providence for 20+ years, it's sort of a big deal I think. Plus, I don't think I ever met a nicer person in the biz.

Anybody have any idea what happened?

The last time he and I spoke about a year ago, he had dreams of moving someplace warm. Maybe he finally decided that NOW is a good time. Good Luck Mike wherever you are.

Mike had told me that he'd had enough of New England winters, and was planning to head south to Florida. Best wishes to him...ever since I first had the pleasure of meeting and working with him at WGNG, in 1979, he's always had his head on straight, and been a terrific asset to the industry :D

In addition to Florida where I think he already has a place, he was throwing around ideas of moving to Palm Springs. So I think it's pretty safe to say that Mr Sheridan has not only left the building, but chances are that he has also left the state. What a great guy who Southern New Englanders will never forget!

Mike could crack me up with a line in the midst of the traffic updates..I hope wherever he is, he's happy and back at work..he'd be an asset behind any mic..

Mike was on television last week. He was one of the hosts during WSBE'S (channel 36) auction.

Well I guess he hasn't left for good yet then. But with all his wishes to live where it's warm, he'll probably be sunning himself very soon.

Re: Mike Sheridan HAS LEFT Metro

SO glad none of you are working in a newsroom somewhere.. Mike left Metro about 2 months ago.. (same time frame as 630 WPRO going FM!).

Was wondering how long it would take any of you to notice!

As far as noticing you would have to listen to Cat Country drive times to notice and even then leaving the air doesn't necessarily mean leaving Metro.People just about know or care who is on the air at Providence stations at this stage of the game much less track the whereabouts of traffic reporters. And are you always this snide even when people are being complimentary?

People go on vacations. Sometimes extended vacations. Other times they go on sick leave. There are all sorts of reasons for people to vanish for a while and then come back. Give credit to people for not rushing to conclusions. If people had done that, there would have been someone here complaining about that too. Sometimes you just can't win in this forum no matter what you say!

Yah seriously, are you really taking a shot at newspeople not knowing? Obviously we knew he wasn't there the day, you know, he didn't do the traffic. We're quick like that.

However, I didn't come running to the boards to ask. I just kind of assumed he left for Florida, which in fact he has done, and more power to him. Couldn't be happier he got away from the cold rain.

I'll be sure to come post all my questions as soon as they dance through my head now though, Jazzy. First question: If one is not Will Smith's DJ, why would one call themselves Jazzy?
