Milestone For "Breakfast With The Beatles"

This Sunday will mark the 500th edition of KLOS-FM's "Breakfast With The Beatles".

It's come a long way since its debut back in the early 80's on KMET. The show eventually moved to the now-defunct KLSX in 2006 but brought back months later by KLOS, where it currently airs - as well as on Sirius and XM.

According to the notable guest list at the above link, it appears George Harrison was the only surviving member of the Beatles (John Lennon was killed in 1980; Harrison passed away in 2001) to not appear on the program. Even Pete Best, a.k.a. "The Fifth Beatle" made an appearance on the show.

After all these years I still miss Dierdre O'Donoghue hosting Breakfast with the Beatles on Sunday mornings. She had the perfect voice and attitude for playing the music on Sunday mornings. Her show was one my great weekly joys. I think Mimi Chen has tapped into Dierdre's approach a bit on her own show on Sunday mornings on the Sound.

I know Chris has his own style and wanted to bring his own imprint to the show, but he has way too much yacking, contests, interviews, and other trivial stuff that gets in the way of the music.

One reason there has never been closure in mind with Dierdre is that the exact nature of her death seems to still be one of the great secrets of LA radio. Some said at the time of her passing that she had an off-air dark side and that her death was not a total surprise to some of those who knew her. I don't know if that is true, but I do know the exact cause of her death was never made public and seemed quite hushed-up at the time.
