Miley Montana and company

Maybe there's an obvious answer to this, but I'd like to hear everyone's take on it. How can Disney have three albums on the Billboard Hot 200 for the past few months (Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, and High School Musical 2), yet the music receives no airplay outside of Radio Disney.

By the way, I agree that the audio quality of AM620 is terrible, but Radio Disney sounds great on Sirius in the car and on the Direct TV muisc channels in the house.

Wrong, check the mediabase CHR charts, Miley and Jonas are charting and are played nationwide.

I have NEVER heard either one on our supposed top-40 station on 106.1. I get they are not controversial enough or something. Or the wrong ethnicity to meet their quota.

Miley is tremendously talented - songs like "Who Said" are catching, show a tremendous singing range, and are a unique combination of rockabilly we haven't heard in a long time. As far as the Jonas Brothers - they sound almost like the early Beatles. Really good stuff - they deserve their success based on talent alone.

I was sort of thinking the same thing, Mr. carter5. I've never heard any of the Miley songs on KISS either, yet they were sponsoring a ticket giveaway last night in Dallas for tonight's Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana concert in Forth Worth. Very stange. The Dallas Morning News and Star Telegram web sites have some interesting stories posted today about this evening's concert.

Ladies and (mostly) gentlemen, never, ever, ever underestimate the power of persuasion, namely when that comes from a child to a loving parent.

Disney is more than a marketing juggernaut, they are a force. I still remember when working freelance for Radio AAHZ (Yes, pronounced like the Wizard) in Dallas. Shortly before the Radio Disney boom hit, AAHZ folk were counting their stocks. They knew what was about to happen.

Radio Disney sounds like crap in Dallas, and even in other markets, but that doesn't negate most of it is voicetracked and syndicated. In other words, national. And if we know anything about this business, it's all about trends. CHR and Top 40 picks it up, sees CUME and AQH hit the roof, because of the force of Disney persuasion. It's what the kids want, and they will go anywhere to hear it.

Full disclosure? I have had Hannah tickets for more than a month and have been offered 10 times face value by who? Parents. 8)

I think the conventional thinking at RD is that the "pre-teen" crowd isn't concerned with quality FM sound yet and from my own kids perspective. I can attest to that. They don't have a clue of the difference, they just want to hear Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers again..and again...and...again.

I will say this though, now that I have HD in the car, it DOES sound like FM and is great.

Can you imagine the chaos around the FW Convention Center tonight. Sold out HM show = 12,000 tickets and with all the construction around the Omni etc only 4,000 parking spaces available. I hope a lot of parents are just dropping their kids at the door.

I knew fanatical kids in West Texas DX'ing 620 from Dallas in the daytime, then switching to San Antonio 1160 in the evening, and finally to 1690 Denver at night. Amazing - the power of Miley and High School Musical.

At least Dallas can claim this one - this is where they are based.

All I know is that I tried to get tickets to this EVIL event tonight in Fort Worth for my daughter... NOTHING! Called in some favors etc... Not happening. Of course, a couple of months ago... I foolishly tried simply buying the tickets.... HA HA HA!

I wish I was apart of the FAN CLUB LAWSUIT! CHA-CHING!

As far as the music is concerned... that crap is being play EVERYWHERE! The only two disney artists I am spinning is ALY & AJ and The Jonas Brothers.

I'd say I will have a report tomorrow, but I will most likely be sleeping in our nosebleed seats, comfy with earplugs and vaseline on my eyes.

Good times, indeed.
