A military chopper from Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah was on its way to a training mission when it crashed into the tower of Albany, Georgia's WFXL/Fox 31 in Colquitt County. Four soldiers of the five onboard were killed. Only the co-pilot survived.A guy wire from the tower snapped, and there is fear that the tower, as well as the tower of WALB-TV/10 (NBC) nearby, may collapse. WFXL is off the air until the scene is cleared and the tower is replaced.My thoughts are with the families of the affected soldiers.

Military chopper crashes into Albany, GA TV tower

[from FlNewsCenter.com and from edited material on WALB.com]A reporter and photographer from WTXL in Tallahassee were taken into custody for obstruction at the scene of an Army helicopter crash. Phyllis Joy Ho, aged 27, and Brandon York Beyer (right) , aged 29, a photographer and reporter from WTXL in Tallahassee, were arrested for obstruction and transported to the Colquitt County jail in Moultrie by Colquitt County deputies. WTXL is an ABC television network affiliate, andis owned by Calkins Media, Inc. Ho and Beyer were released this afternoon on a $750 bond. WTXL General manager Kim Urbuteit told WALB by telephone this afternoon that she would not release the news teams' names or make any comment about the arrest. Reporters and on lookers are being kept quite a distance away from the copter crash site, near the WALB-TV and WFXL-TV television towers in Doerun, GA.

Tragic story. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the brave fighting men and women who perished.The story about the reporters interfering in the rescue efforts sickens me, but it is not unfortunately the first timeI've heard of such a thing. I have spoken with people in the Civil Air Patrol, who have continuously complained about one particular local Pittsburgh TV reporter. The guy constantly shows up at crash sites, gets in the way, refuses to follow instructions, creates loud scenes, "I'm a member of the press, you can't tell me what to do", etc. All this does is get in the way and gum-up the search and recovery efforts. You'd think they could show a little decency under the circumstances.
