"Million Second" Fiasco for NBC

Last night was day one of NBC's long-awaited, overly-hyped summer's biggest event on TV, and there were some major glitches along the way. The "Million Second Quiz" went on as planned-but there were several bugs that came with it. The Game show is set in an outdoor hourglass studio atop of a Mercedes-Benz dealership; the game itself is a head-to-head match-up, which is usually takes place for 400 seconds which is 6 minutes & 40 seconds. While Seacrest rests up at The Park Plaza, The four players are shacked up in a room which has four beds, and a homeless shelter feel. Players who play The MSQ gets Subway Subs while Seacrest gets free breakfast every morning. This is the game show where players make more money than a normal contestant on "Jeopardy" does each day for one half hour.

So the bugs were all related to the set?

No-This does not have anything to do with the set, but to limited accessibility to become a contestant on the show, and The MSQ app is available only to phones, iPads, and tablet computers with the very latest technology. You can't do with a 3g. They need something more than that.

Weren't you going to try out for MSQ Troy?

Also, I cannot get the MSQ live stream to work at all. Tried about 11 ET last night (I presume some insomniac was in the chair earning money that late in the evening...)

I tuned in for a few minutes late last night...about as boring as I expected with a bunch of the contestants talking about random things. Also they're lucky enough to have four TV's tuned to WNBC, CNBC, MSNBC and E! for 'entertainment', though infomercials on E! and CNBC and the Hota/Kathie Lee repeat on WNBC were all being ignored by everybody.

Well, tonight's game (9/12/13) was played indoors for the safety of the players inside where they sleep while they're not playing.

Finally got the stream to work. My flash player was outdated (10.1 compared to today's Flash Player 11.6) 6:50PM ET - People eating Subway (about 20 of them), waiting for probably the live broadcast.

Here's why the show is bad. While the game is running 24 hours a day supposedly, the truth is almost nobody is winning any money. Even when you watch it in prime time, no one is winning any money. The show is on every weeknight for two weeks but only four of the dozens of contestants you see will get any cash at all.

There are two different shams going on. First, I don't believe the contestants flown in from Salt Lake City and Memphis had no idea they'd be on the show till a live camera truck and local TV reporter shows up at their door. What if they couldn't take the time off from work, or had to care for a sick relative? Why is their hair and clothing perfect, no torn tee-shirts or ratty sweat pants? They're all at home, they didn't run to the 7-Eleven for a loaf of bread or have to work late when the TV camera shows up?

Second, Ryan Seacrest keeps saying things like "Contestant John Smith has won $87,000 so far." Or "Contestant Mary Jones is adding $100 a second while sitting in the oval." But they're NOT. Only four people out of dozens of people we see will earn anything. A few times during the show Seacrest admits this, but then he goes back to saying "winning" or "earning" when it's not true. At least with Jeopardy and Millionaire even losers get $1000 - $2000. At least on Wheel of Fortune you keep your earnings. But this is a PRIME TIME show and almost everybody you see will get NO money at all.

I think what NBC is doing is unethical and maybe even against FCC regulations by having Seacrest constantly say people are winning money when they're not.

MSQ is like "Jeopardy" meets "Big Brother". The more you play this game, The longer you sit in The seat, The more money you make-But there's a price; Lose a matchup, and the game is over. You'll leave the studio empty-handed. Rules are Rules.

In other words... "You get NOTHING! You LOSE! Good Day, Sir!" -Willie Wonka.

Million Dollar Money Drop had a similar problem - a great big pile of money was placed before hapless contestants, who looked on helplessly as it disappeared. It's depressing.

I used to like game shows that made people happy.

On last night's show, Hayley was so screwed after she failed to get the right answer; Should have use the Double Back-Forcing Eric (Hayley's Opponent), as he must answer that question. As a result, Hayley has suffered the consequence as she lost all of her earnings to Eric-As he slept very comfortably over at Winners' Row.

I could probably have created a better, more entertaining, and easier to follow game show.

In fact, my girlfriend's Great Niece (who's also my unofficial Great Niece), who will be 3 in November, could probably come up with a better quiz show!

;)
