Composer-bandleader-music publisher Milton De Lugg died April 6 in Los Angeles at age 96. De Lugg composed such well-known songs as "Hoop-De-Doo," "Orange Colored Sky" and "Be My Life's Companion;" and led the band on "Broadway Open House," TV's first late-night variety show, "The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson" (for about two years, following Skitch Henderson and preceding Doc Severinsen), and "The Gong Show", on which he was always introduced by Chuck Barris as 'Milton De Lugg and his Band With a Thug.' He is survived by his sons Michael and Stephen.
