Milton Metz Has Died

I just saw a tweet from WHAS-11 that longtime Louisville radio and TV broadcaster Milton Metz has died. He was 95.

Milton hosted the evening show on WHAS Radio for many years. By all accounts, he was a true gentleman.

Milton Metz had a gift. While not given a voice that fully matched the typical radio voice of his time, he quickly learned how to use what he had to its fullest. Metz combined that with a passion to learn. Without ever asking, you knew that Mr. Metz was a reader. There was an obvious grasp of and love for language. He was a communicator, not just an announcer. He understood the need to be prepared when he entered the studio. It was reflected in his interview style and in how he he interacted with his callers. He had the innate ability to know and communicate that there is more to our lives than the temporal that much of today's media is focused on. There are very few radio personalities like Mr. Metz still around. I suspect we'd be a better society had talk radio continued along the trajectory of his "Metz Here" program.

He was one of the greats in local radio and TV. Back when radio really connected with its audience. He wasn't mean or hateful in order to get ratings either. Something that today's talk radio severely lacks. RIP Milton Metz
