Milwaukee Admirals new radio home

In an intriguing move, the Milwaukee Admirals are moving to ESPN Milwaukee 1510/1290.

Is this a good move for the Ads, with the new ownership?
Yeah they were on WJYI 1340, a Christian station, but does this move prove wise for the hockey club?

OK I know they are going to an "all-sports" station, but with the day/night frequency thing won't this be confusing for the listeners? How has this worked out for the NASCAR races???

One of the other boards questions what WSSP 1250 will do in reaction...is there even need for a followup move in the "battle for local play by play"?

Great move for WAUK and the Ads. With Ray Q out of the market, one of two things will happen. (1) SSP end up changing formats, or the station will get the right leader and be more competive.

Great move? Uhm...maybe for WAUK, but it wouldn't have been for WSSP. I obviously don't know all the details, but I'm pretty sure they took a pass on carrying the games.

In my opinion the Admirals, at best, are on par with something like Women's Basketball. They have some hardcore fans, but lack a general base. As WSSP looks to expand their offerings I'm sure that the question they had to ask themselves with this deal was "Are the Admirals the best possible use of airtime?" since it would involve some sort of long term contract. The answer was no. This leaves them with plenty of options.

Remember - Entercom has deep pockets, and has committed to doing whatever it takes to succeed. They will move very slowly to build this radio station. They have a long term vision, and won't do something like take on a team simply because it's available.

Not everything is as it seems.<P ID="signature">______________

I'm curious about one thing...Back in the 80's and early 90's WISN carried the Admirals games.
What was the reason they stopped? Was it because of marquette hoops or something more

As successful as the Admirals are, they would have to be considered fringe sports (like the Wave), third level behind the big four, then behind second tier teams like Marquette and UWM.

I guess the other question to pose is this...How many sports (play by play) can Milwaukee radio support?

Brewers, Bucks, Packers, Badgers on WTMJ
Marquette on WISN
UWM on WOKY
Admirals and NASCAR on WAUK
Wave ?? (were on WRRD, but the deal has not been renewed)
Is there too much???
