Milwaukee Market Ranking Declines Again

Arbitron just released it's updated market size rankings for 2006. Milwaukee fell again this year from #33 to #36. The only market that had a steeper decline was New Orleans which fell from #47 to #57 due to Katrina.

I can remember Milwaukee being market #25 throughout the 1980s, it was even bigger before then. Now it's in a freefall. I think this is a case of Milwaukee having a stable population being passed up by fast growing sun belt cities. For example this year Charlotte and Orlando jumped over Milwaukee in market ranking.

In TV, too. Milwaukee is now the 34th largest Nielsen DMA, down from #33 last year, flipping positions with Cincinnati.

As for New Orleans, it dropped from DMA #43 to #54 this year.
