Two AM stations at the top. Not many markets (or ARE there even any others) that can boast that.

WISN does not have a translator. They get good ratings in the heavily Conservative counties surrounding Milwaukee. It says a lot. If you give people what they want to hear, they will listen regardless of the band it's on. I don't listen to it personally, I'm not a fan of Talk radio, and I am not a Conservative. It is very noticeable. WISN has been ontop for awhile now. The people in the Conservative areas of the market are really wound up. WISN is their go to regardless of whether it is on AM or not

WTMJ's boost was from the Brewers in the same way WRNW's boost was from the Packers. About 1 share each
 
What is the average age of a Milwaukee market resident? Two talkers (on AM!) and a classic rocker dominating the 6+ numbers makes Milwaukee look like Sun City or St. Augustine to this outsider. That one of those successful talkers also carries baseball, which skews elderly, only adds to that perception.
 
I just noticed that even Radio Milwaukee is ahead of KPNW in Seattle. They have a much more diverse playlist, yet they feature almost all current music, except during the request program at lunchtime. It just illustrates how important focused programming is to a station's success. When you look at the top stations in the ratings, an observer wouldn't expect this station to even register.
