Minneapolis Radio Observations

I've recently moved out here. Radio isn't bad. My new office has WLTE on. 92 KQRS isn't a bad classic rock station.

How do people here generally feel about radio in Minnesota?

actually you're talking mainly about TC radio, and I really don't care for most of the commercial stations here. I usually listen to KBEM (88.5), KCMP (89.3), KMOJ (89.9), KFAI (90.3/106.7), KUOM (770), etc.

Aside from 'college towns' and some cities with great community stations, most radio in Minnesota is boring in the music aspect -- great in the information part.

XM does classic rock and light rock better anyway, IMHO.

Listen to a lot of Minneapolis radio from Boston, do you?

How do you like 89.3 The Current? I've only listened to it online, but I wish the public radio stations near me would play that type of music.

It's really good, even if it plays more alt-rock then ambient, folk, jazz, et al I was hoping for (not that I don't like alternative rock, but my tastes have grown since the early 90's). As stated, it's not always what I like to hear, but that's difficult to do for each listener. XM fills in my other tastes, as I probably listen to 20+ channels (music, news, information, etc.).

After reading all the replies here .. I notice one thing. Not ONE mention about a country station anywhere. Why is that?

Very recently, a Star Tribune story bluntly layed out the bold facts in local ratings. The cities local country station has better pull than 'CCO-AM. Hum - imagine?

Perhaps you local listeners down there should really tune in once and a while and listen... ::)

Many many moons ago an FM country station, KTCR, had overall low ratings, but one demographic, Women 18-34, had a 19.1 share in the evenings, beating WCCO in that particular demo. 1974 was the year.
