Miss American Pagent on CMT

I only watched some of it. Interesting that it was in Las Vegas and that it was on the country music channel! Just shows how popularity of the event has dropped significantly over the years. The guy on Desperate Housewives hosted (whats his name?). Sounded like he changed his voice, on purpose I bet.

Miss Oklahoma won.

Anyone know what the ratings were? I would assume nothing staggering.

The last time they were on broadcast TV(ABC), I believe the rating was nine million viewers, with the swimsuit part being the most popular part.

Worse part about it is that they are repeating the pageant all week long,as a matter of fact it is on right now.

I just wonder how it did ratings wise since it went to cable and on a country music channel at that. CMT has not had a decent country music show in quite some time, about like AMC showing what they call "classic" movies and Nick at Nite and TV Land showing what they call classic TV.

Ratings for Miss America? Chances are not much to talk to about it.

After all what is the purpose of this pageant to keep it running? Chances are most people without doing a search online can remember who won last year? 2000? 1994? so forth..

Really the only former Miss America a lot of people still remember is Vanessa Williams and a lot of that had to do with that infamous Penthouse magazine spread that caused her to give up her crown. Of course she would later go on to be a popular singer.

and of course to a smaller degree you have Miss America 1955..Lee Meriwether

Don't forget Bess Myerson:Miss America 1945,Mary Ann Mobley:Miss America 1959 and Phyllis George:Miss America 1971. All 3 went on to successful careers especially Bess Myerson and Phyllis George.

When did "Goonies" and "Colors" and "The Color of Money" become "classics"? American movies, yes. But classics? Am I really getting that old? All three films were on the AMC schedule for 1/22/06.

And if you get sick of watching the Miss America deal on CMT, there's always the other dog show on Animal Planet. [grinning, ducking, running for cover mode on]

I think there is an audience for it, just NOT the huge audience it once was. Pagents even on a local level, are popular and make the bucks. But let's face it with the reality thing looking like it'll stick around, there are a lot of other ways to achieve notariety<P ID="signature">______________

Folks,

Pagents in the South are still considred a big deal, although not as much as 10-20 years ago. Much like hockey in Canada, Miss America and the ilk still have a strong regional following.

Although, i'd rather watch paint dry, I did record the MAP and watched parts of this morning. Then i remembered why i never watched them ;)
