Miss Jones to Hit 106 ?

The New York Daily News reports that Miss Jones is reportly coming to Hit 106. The paper reports it as coming as a weekand countdown shows to start. So the question is do they put her on during the weekday or just for countdown shows? While their were no ratings for Hit 106 in the monmouth & ocean book they got a 0.1 in middlesex so they need to do something. Furthermore Matt Knight is now PD and afternoon host so i think he wil do good and fix hit 106.

The only way Top 40 Station #6 (Hit 106) can be "fixed" is if is dropped and G Rock is brought back.

Matt Knight's a great on-air/programming talent and all, but he's not a miracle worker. It doesn't matter if they bring in Miss Jones or Ryan Seacrest or a whole army of manscaping metrosexuals or whoever: A hit music station is a hit music station, is a hit music station. We have enough, and if the ratings aren't going anywhere, that is the problem.

Why is it that we can have all of these stations that play almost the same exact music verbatim, and there's no room for even ONE alternative rock station? The sooner Press realizes that the only thing that held G Rock back was management's lack of passion and enthusiasm for the format, the better. If Press doesn't wake up, I hope someone else will.

Let's see
Hit 106.3 competes with 87.7, 92.3, 94.3, 95.5, 100.3, 103.5
Hit 106.5 competes with 88.9, 93.7, 94.5, 95.1, 96.5, 99.3, 102.1, 104.9
There's a lot of hate of Hit 106 from all the G-Rock listeners that will never listen to Hit 106, and have managed to convince advertisers to pull their ads. All those stations will play Britney and Gaga so they are CHRs.

At my location, I can fill every single one of my 12 presets with a CHR station and still not have room for Hit 106.
The only advantage Hit 106 has is that it can be heard all the way from New York to Atlantic City on the Parkway

At some point, I realized it was silly to work hard at lining Press' pockets. Frankly, I'd like to line my own, if there's any pocket lining to be done.

(And that's always the problem...)

With all the Top 40's out there, a lot are the same. BUT... The difference between them are the Gold's. That's where a PD/MD will make a difference. If any of you have actually listened to Hit 106, you know that Matt Knight's signature is very original. A lot of the Golds heard on Hit 106 aren't heard anywhere else in the market(s). They make the station fun to listen to. For an everyday listener, they add a great "what's coming on next" situation. Kudos to Matt Knight and Hit 106 for taking the chance to surprise their listeners.

To be honest, that's how I know the difference which CHR is playing here in Monmouth Co., Hit will touch more recurrents and throwbacks from not too long ago than any other CHR station, other than that, sounds the same like the hundred other CHR stations. I think there are more CHR stations in Jersey than there are hip-hop stations in Atlanta.

We're talking about an extremely minute part of the big picture. Maybe 5-10% of the overall playlist consists of these kinds of songs. But if you listen for a half an hour to a number of stations, as I did recently, you don't notice any difference at all. The differences between all the Top 40 stations are extremely subtle, and only the most devoted listeners of each one could probably explain what makes each one unique.

All I know is that when I turned on Hit 106, I heard Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Soulja Boy Tell Em, Jesse McCartney, and all of the same old songs I could hear anywhere else ... and considering that this used to be the place where we could hear bands that no other station on the dial plays, such as Radiohead, Beck, Garbage, Kaiser Chiefs, Shiny Toy Guns, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, NJ acts like Dramarama and The Gaslight Anthem, etc., it's all the more disappointing.

It still doesn't make sense why we can have all of these Top 40 stations (wherever you are in Monmouth/Ocean, you can fill all your presets with stations playing the same exact music), and not even one modern rock station. Does the male listener not matter? We're not all into Led Zeppelin and AC/DC, so whoever is responsible for this bogus research that says there's no need for an alternative station in this area screwed up their data.
