Missed opportunity

I know this has be mentioned ad nauseam but still....
What a day it would have been to have a LOCAL AM show on 97.5. Turned to them as I got in the car and heard them talking about the Jets (as them seem to do every time I tune in), mentioning each of their 6 billion sponsors over and over, talking Idaho (?!) football....no baseball.- click
WIP....Talking about how someone farted on TV, how the Phila fans booed the TBS announcer....same old 13 year old level talk.- click

I dream of a day that 97.5 could have a local show that would actually talk sports. All sports! And days like today...talk about that big game (without the 'stern like' attempt and humor)

I like dreamin......

I hear you, knight. Sports radio in Phila leaves a lot to be desired. There's virtually nothing compelling or really entertaining radio, no creativity or fresh energy, or true prospective. I will be the first one to congratulate Greater Media if they spend the necessary money to have a compelling morning drive show on the new FM sports station, but like you said, that's dreamin. WIP's morning show talent budget is well over $1 million. Do you think you're getting that return as a listener?

I think eventually 97.5 will have a local morning show. I know contractually Mike & Mike have to be cleared in Philly but that could be done easily by running it on 950 only. Perhaps, that's something to look forward to in the new year.

I flipped to 97.5 and actually got a good bit of them talking about the Phils/World Series. When they went to commercial, I tried WIP, which amounted to some, shall we say, playing-with-less-than-a-full-deck callers being mocked by the hosts. I actually got more intelligent baseball talk from the national show than the local one, at least at that particular time on this particular day.

Whether a local show on The Fanatic could unseat, or at least take a big bite from, WIP, I couldn't predict (there's a definite market for drunken-frat-boy stuff), but it would be interesting to find out.

Does anyone know how raunchy WIP's morning show was during and after Howard Stern's tenure on WYSP?

Well, this may not exactly answer your question, but I gave it a try once and heard a discussion with guest Debbie (Deborah?) Gibson about posing nude. I never bothered tuning in again.

I have to imagine that while there is an audience for the 'strippers on radio' type bits, there also has to be an audience that really just wants sports talk. I am out of the 'stripper' demo and long for quality sports talk radio. I am even ok with a national show, but as I have said before...to me, Mike and Mike is just to damn scripted. It sounds to me like the show is rehearsed down to the word. Rarely do I get the feeling that they say or do anything that was not already thought out, approved and practiced. And while I get the need for sponsorships, they seem to go overboard (like the eagles game broadcasts). Just my 1.5 cents (2 cents adjusted for the bad economy!)

Forget NFL games, can you imagine them calling a WWE match? Maybe they'll be hand-picked by Hulk Hogan as he returns to wrestling via "TNA"!

I think the WWF (I mean of course the WWE...sorry I was confused there for a second with the environmental group!) is to ad lib for Mike and Mike! ( that mention of mike and mike was brought to you by Radio Shack, Frito Lay, Energizer, Bud Lite and Subway)
Got in the car today and heard Angelo (the station was left on after the Flyers game last night) talking about how deviled eggs make him gassy! Now THAT is great radio!! click

Maybe Radio-Info should have the Post of the Day, sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service. Or Post cereals.
