Missing Big Paul

5 years ago Wednesday, we lost a good friend with Big Paul. Wish he was here, but thinking about him puts a smile on my face! :)

I sill smile when I think of Big Paul! I believe they will lift a glass in his memory at the G on Wednesday evening.

Big Paul... A good Man, A good Talent... He Is Missed by many.

The Gatsby's family lost a couple on that date as well....Wish I could be there

I can't believe it's been 5 years already. I remember the night it happened. I was in a movie and my cell went off 7 times by the end of the movie (it was silent so I didn't see it until after the movie). Such a sad day. He was a true friend and completely genuine guy. Sorely missed.

I was doing a remote in Greensboro. They didn't tell me about the accident until it was over at 6PM.

In honor of Paul... Wednesday is officially Hawaiin Shirt Day.

Wear one proudly for Big Paul!

Big Paul, Aunt Eloise, and Chef Ed used to take turns making their lunch. They ate it around 10am, which I guess is lunch when you get up at 4 in the morning. Big Paul had made spaghetti that day...brought it in a big crock pot. I remember being one of the last people to have some and talking to him as he cleaned his crock pot. He said he was headed to the beach right after his shift. That was the last time I ever saw him. I remember there was a call to the station and everyone knew it was bad. Word leaked out that he might be dead, but of course you held out hope that it was incorrect...it couldn't be true. We found out for sure late that evening...you couldn't help but cry...it was just unbelievable.

I can't even begin to express how much Big Paul is missed. There is a void that is hard to fill when you lose a guy like Paul. He was larger than life, cared about everybody, and had a faith that was reflected in everything he did. Butch, Paul, Frank...we love ya!

He was genuinely one of the great people in our business.

I worked with Paul in Charlotte for EZ. We both took our first PD gigs in FLA at about the same time and then ended up programming across the street from each other in GBO. I still remember the first time Paul told me to meet him over at the Embassy Suites to catch the Happy Hour for guests. Server walked over mid converstation and asks the room number, mid sentence he says '221' w/o missing a beat. Server walked away, he looked like a kid who just scored his first 3 point shot.

I read about Paul's passing on the internet. Rough way to find out. As I read it, my cell phone rang with a 336 area code and I knew it was true. Anwered the phone and could barely speak.

He was a good friend, person, and broadcaster. And, he is missed.

A great gathering on Burke Street last night in honor of Big Paul, Tom and Isolde. As usual, there were hugs and lots of laughs! Big Paul would have been proud!

I don't know how many of you can hear the Kat Country commercials on Charlotte TV. The female morning co-host makes Paul Schadt look like an idiot. WTQR seems to be trying to copy them.

Wow..just saw this thread..I was the imaging voice for TQR just before Big Paul passed..I worked with him in Tampa at Cos's WCOF..and a nicer guy in this business would certainly be hard to find.

A few audio clips of Paul on the TQR website today. Heard their night guy Mark say enter keyword "Mark". Paul does a bit called Bad American that sums him up pretty well. He was a real talent. A Hawaiian shirt clad Paul stayed a little while after his shift on May 16th 2002 (even though he was beach bound!) to record a few bits with Kevin Harvick who came into the studio after the morning show. That was the last time I saw him.
