Missing From Sunny Playlist?

While Sunny still has a good variety of Christmas songs, the playlist seems shorter than past years. Among the missing which were on the heavy rotation in the past are the Ray Coniff Singers versions of Rudolph and Frosty, which are 'Philadelphia favorites' by their long association with the soundtrack of the Wannamaker's Light Show, and "Mary Did You Know" by Kenny Rogers & Wynonna, which I read one all-Christmas station said was their most requested song, the original version of "We Need a Little Christmas" (they play a different version). Anyone heard these, and any other songs among the missing that they played heavily before?

There are some good country crossovers I heard in other markets that I'd like to hear here too - "OLd Toy Trains" by Glen Campbell, "Light of the Stable" by Emmylou Harris, "Silver Bells" by Jim Reeves, "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" by Marty Robbins...but I can always get the old tapes out.

I remember hearing Mary Did You Know a couple of times, but as a connoisseur of Christmas music it does seem to me that it is playing less frequently as of now. Maybe once it gets closer they will play it more? In the beginning, I e-mailed because I hadn't heard John Tesh's We Fall Down, but that is now on regular rotation. I am happy that they seem to be playing a good balance of non-religious/religious music. I was wondering if the PC police would be moving towards radio next, making "Christmas" music promotion go away in favor of "holiday" music with religious themes downplayed.

I have heard a bit of the Coniff Singers here and there. I'm glad they have kept classics and not gone to the Jessica Simpson version of those classics! I would like if they would play more of the TV versions of the Rudolph, Santa Clause is Coming To Town, Frosty etc. songs. My sister has a CD of those Rankin/Bass productions and they really bring back childhood memories. Nothing like hearing Fred Astaire singing "Santa Claus is Coming To Town" or Mickey Rooney singing "One Foot In Front Of The Other"!

The original version is by Angela Lansbury from the Original Cast Recording of "Mame." The more popular one is by the Percy Faith Singers, and it's been covered by dozens of artists since then who don't get the context of the song. It's not a happy Christmas song, it's a woman who's having a nervous breakdown.

I'm surprised it gets played as often as it does at Christmas time. Sometimes I'm surprised it gets played at all.

I particularly enjoy the New Christy Minstrels' version of "We Need a Little Christmas'" also how about some Steve and Edyie "That Holiday Feeling." "Sleigh Ride." "Hurry Home for Christmas" and "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Yeah Steve & Edyie are so last millennium, but those songs are excellent for the holidays. Much more enjoyable than hearing Vanessa Carlton warbling and moaning through "Greensleeves"

Well, consider the misconception of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!" That is not a happy song by any stretch of the imagination. Christmas has been reinvented more times than Madonna (the singer). At one point, I think it even had something to do with Jesus Christ! Amazing!

Royal Guardsman

I always thought Snoopy's Christmas was a top 10 hit, I was surprised to see it did not show up in the Billboard Top-100 Book. Wasn't it a very popular song when it was out??

I love those Steve and Edyie songs! I think WJBR's "Christmas Festival of Music" on Christmas Eve and Day plays some of their songs.
