Missing HD Radio channels in Cincinnati

I just bought an Insignia NS-HDRAD tabletop HD radio to replace my old NS-HD01 which I suspected had a bad tuner (it could hardly pull in an analog signal in Eastgate, let alone a digital signal at 10% of analog power). Crazy thing is, I'm still missing channels, and it's NOT the tuner this time. I got a friend with the same issue on a car stereo. The only HD stations in town right now are 89.7, 90.9, 91.7, 94.9, 97.3, 101.9, 102.7, 105.1, and 107.1.

According to the official HD radio channel guide at http://www.hdradio.com/stations/Ohio-OH/Cincinnati-16 I should also be getting 92.5, 94.1, 96.5, 98.5, 100.3 (Not that I really care about the fan LOL), and 101.1. Where are these extra stations????? Has anybody been manning the transmitter sites?????

Also, when will WGRR go digital?

That site you posted has not been updated in a while. It's missing 94.5 (WKFS-HD2 airing 700 WLW). 102.7's HD-2 channel is The Project, not Slippery When wet. The format for 100.3 has not been updated from MOJO to The Fan. It shows 94.9 as having "Rewind" as it's 94.9 HD-2 station, when it's actually the HD-1. Both of 97.3's formats listed are wrong.

Basically the site you looked at needs to be ignored.

Despite the format changes, name changes, etc; wouldn't the stations that WERE on the air back then still have the digital equipment? I spent $50 to hear 92.5 and 96.5 in digital... and they're not there.

Also I prefer 94.1 over B105 when it comes to country... and 94.1 isn't digital either. It used to be.

When I had my Insignia NS-HD01 (a year ago), all the stations in town were digital except WOBO, ClassX, WGRR, and 105.9 WNKU Middletown.

HD Radio is dead in Cincinnati. There is so much that could be on these HD2 HD3 channels but nothing is on to make people say I need to go out and buy a HD radio.

This. I'm still surprised Clear Channel hasn't put ESPN 1530 or 55KRC on an HD subchannel like WEBN's. Even if there isn't a translator available to stick it on, at least you could advertise a static-free signal for the four people in the area with HD radios. CC Dayton put 980 WONE on WTUE's HD2, and there are only four people listening to the analog signal to begin with! Another thing I noticed a few weeks ago is that WHKO put 95.3 the Eagle on both their HD2 and HD3 streams, I don't know if Cox is eyeing some translators north of Dayton for it or what, but I'm curious as to why they haven't put WHIO's format on the HD3, again for the four people with HD radios on the south side of Dayton who can't get 95.7 that easily.

Hubbard isn't doing anything with their HD2s either, besides the Sound, which I can't imagine anyone listens to with the Project out there. Q102's plays some interesting stuff every now and then, but WUBE and WYGY are both playing the same crap that's on their analog signals on their subchannels, which is such a waste. The only HD2 station I enjoy listening to is WVXU's, which streams Public Radio Remix, but I can stream that online whenever. I have a feeling HD Radio will be completely dead nationwide in maybe five years.

OP, I can't believe how much you remind me of myself about 10 years ago. Maybe we could meet up and you could see the inevitable conclusion of a radio obsession, which involves a lot of cynicism and not getting your hopes up. Or we could get off our asses and get a time slot on WAIF.

If HD Radio is still around five years from now, it's only use will be to feed CC's translators on 100.7 94.5 and 106.3. Radio One is another company that could do more with HD sub channels. Why not put 1230 The Buzz on HD3 and Mojo Jammn Oldies on HD2 either on 101.1 or 100.3.

I had my hopes up that by now, there would be second studios added at Hubbard's facilities for new HD programming (LIVE programming, I swear to God The Sound and The Chill have played the same playlist looped for at least 4 years!!!!!!), CC would put all their AM stations on HD2/HD3 channels along with maybe another automated closet format like the Project currently is, Cumulus would've added national formats to HD2/HD3 channels, and AM stations would've worked deals with FM stations for HD simulcast. Digital AM is NOT the answer! We got enough BUZZ from DSL, we don't need I-BUZZ making it worse.

I also expected to see the FCC starting to talk about a major power increase for digital broadcasts. Nobody's listening because the signals are too weak! I'm in Eastgate and can't pick up sh*t on my digital radio. I've tried boosters, different antennas, etc and nothing has changed. I'm lucky to pick up RBDS, let alone an HD carrier.

How about moving digital broadcasts to the old TV channels 5 and 6? Maybe experiment on 87.5, 87.7, and 87.9 with digital only (No HD and No analog, pure digital ibiquity format) powers of 1kW or greater? Most current equipment can receive it and it's in an open area of the dial free of analog stations (other than WDPR 88.1).

As for meeting a fellow radio geek, I'd love that! If our music favorites are alike, maybe we could share a slot on WAIF! Now you got my hopes up. Stop it John! *Talking to self* LOL

Q102 is still The Chill (same playlist for 4 years), Kiss has a simulcast of 700 WLW and also Air1 Christian music, and I highly doubt the Sound's been updated either. It's as if Hubbard has CDs set to repeat all hooked up to the exciters.
