I'm going to harp on this

Why are you say like 15 Eighty for? it's 1580

It's called "artistic license" and used in the same manner that modern artists paint a vision, not a photograph.

Wikipedia:

Artistic license (also known as art licenselo, historical license, dramatic license, poetic license, narrative license, licentia poetica, or simply license) is a colloquial term, sometimes a euphemism, used to denote the distortion of fact, alteration of the conventions of grammar or language, or rewording of pre-existing text made by an artist in the name of art.

Would you prefer we use Fifteen~80?

Nurse Jeff and I do a lot of things that are just flat out weird, but deep down inside we're a bunch of harmless Middle Eastern Men of the Media. Now please, don't axe us to explain "TMISU", The Old Gringo, or why we drive a '76 Gremlin Levis Special. errr, shouldn't that be 70~Six?

It's Dr. Akbar. The Buckeye Media Hut has its own style guide.

Also, I learned something really interesting: http://americanradiohistory.com/Archive-BC/BC-1957/1957-04-29-BC.pdf

Apparently, upon KHEP's first sale in 1957, the buyer/lessee also applied for 1580, with the caveat that if the application to get 1280 was approved, they would drop their app for 1580. Kind of funny then to see 1280 and 1580 now operating combined.

And even funnier is the bio of the President of Grand Canyon Broadcasting - a former dj at KRIZ, KRUX and KPOK. Yes indeedy, KPOK is now Lumberyard 14~Forty! The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon have nothing on the home of the infamous Lamptimer!

Off the air due to rusted guy wire anchors on the other 5 towers in Tempe. Concurrent with the request to go dark, Gabrielle has an application in to move the transmitter to the KXEG site and downgrade to Class D. They'll remain 50kw non-directional day, but reduce to 95 watts non-direction night - down from 6 sticks and 50kw. The Nurse and I think it won't be until next year we'll hear them back on the air.

I guess I just ignore it, It bothers me when people type like that
that

Just be glad the good Doc is "middle-eastern" and not Roman. Otherwise you'd really be in trouble trying to decipher MDLXXX, and of course...ye ol' lamptimer at MCDXL.

I never knew the Gremlin came with the Levi's option. Certainly would've been well worth the small fee paid to the AMC dealer back in '76...err, um 70~Six.

Edt to add: Hey Doc, have you guys seen your last century topping temperature yet in Buckeye? Love to know if I can claim a two fer two wit' cha...

Here ya go...just watch out for that rivet strategically placed where your gluteus maximus resides! http://www.heddels.com/2014/08/levis-amc-denim-gremlin-car-wore-pants/

Guess if the temp drops down to L degrees and you'd double it to C, then we'd give you the prize. That's about the only way we're going to hit 1~hundred again this year.** But you're already a winner by shopping at the Buckeye Media Hut for all your holiday gift giving. Bobbleheads of Nurse Jeff, The Old Gringo and me are just $5 each...or $20 for all three!

Ah, sounds like something from XERF. There was a preacher who would bless you if you sent money. There was a $5 blessing, a $10 blessing and a $15 blessing. A friend who was manager of XERF innocently asked the preacher, "what's the difference betweent he $5 dollar blessing and the $15 dollar blessing?" The preacher replied, "Ten dollars!"

Try worrying about things that matter, like the use of "ain't" in songs...

So I clicked on the American radio history link above and lost about an hour of time. Is this a natural phenomena? It wasn't unpleasant but one minute I'm in 1957 the next thing I know, the dogs needed to be fed and my microwave dinner is cold. Some how I have the urge to buy a Gremlin with the Levis package and an AM only radio with no expanded band.

We can relate to that blast from the past...especially the ad for Todd Storz' radio stations. KOWH was a killer in Omaha, even though a daytimer! That ad ran before his purchase of KOMA 15~Twenty.

We'd sell you ours, but Bruce Kelly was kind enough to give us an XM radio receiver back in the day, and Nurse Jeff has flatulated all over those Levi seats. Not sure the vehicle lives up to AMC standards!

hmmmm....is this thread taking on Lamptimer characteristics?

Or is this actually the Lamptimer thread folding through time onto it's self? Maybe the effect of the Hookah? 15~eighty is on the air! We are just in the wrong place in time, problem solved. Next!

Somewhere in my collection is an aircheck of Art Webb talking up Curtis Mayfield's Superfly on "Cosmic KUPD" - when you win a Boogie Shirt you qualify to win a Levi's Gremlin.

I'm not sure if you could get the Gremlin down the road to that double-wide, though.

When those five remaining sticks at the Tempe xmttr site come down, sure hope someone captures that and posts on YouTube. Here's how it looked in Detroit when the last two sticks of Keener 13 (actually 13~Ten) came tumbling down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gskUrvJKT4 I ♥ Debt took the station off the air, demo-ed the sticks and donated the license to a minority group, who in turn sold it for $100k. The new buyer got the xmttr, leased the tower site, and is now rebuilding the six sticks. Go figure!

Rebuilding a directional array on 1310 in Detroit makes about as much sense as the winter seminar at the Buckeye Media Hut: how to make a small fortune in Ancient Modulation. (tip: start with a large fortune)

An informal objection has been filed to the KHEP CP. Objector claims it's a matter of homeland security that station maintain its Class B operation. Don't know if that's enough to thwart the plan. It's posted in the correspondence folder link http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_det.pl?Application_id=1696527

When was the last time an actual studio with people in it, as opposed to a satellite dish, was connected to the 1580 transmitter? When it was KNIX? And besides, don't at least a few of the FM stations have backup transmitters elsewhere in the metro (KUPD on one of the KDUS towers, for example), because of the unlikely chance that the South Mountain site could be damaged or destroyed?

A PhD in Mass Communications? That explains it all. His reasoning is 15~Eighty with 50kw at night is the only AM capable of keeping Zonies informed in the event of a Zombie Apocalypse on South Mtn that knocks out FMs. One slight problem with that reasoning - there are too many nulls in 15~Eighty's coverage thanks to their six tower pattern. The measly 1kw of 5~Fifty covers the market far better at night.

Sounds like this guy has a beef with Jacob Barker and probably wants some $$ to go away so he can finish his education. Too bad he didn't enroll at the Buckeye Media Hut....we would have advised him to get a life, then a real job at Starbucks!

If you're going to claim to be a "longtime Phoenix/Tempe resident" then maybe you shouldn't list your mailing address as Norman, OK and an e-mail address of OU.edu...
