Phoenix is not an "uneducated city." There is actually a high percentage of the Phoenix-area population with a college degree or post-grad studies.
Seattle may or may not have better TV journalists, but Phoenix has not always been in the position of having a bunch of fluff bimbos and himbos read the news.
There was a time when intelligent people like Lew Ruggiero, John Kain, Bill Stull, Larry Martel, Michael Hagerty, Ron Talley, Mary Jo West, Linda Alvarez, Dave Nichols, and many more, filled the local TV airwaves with intelligent reporting and anchoring. And there are still people on the air in Phoenix who are intelligent and do very good work.
The problem is the prevailing mindset - certainly not unique to Phoenix - that people want crap. How else do you explain the hysteria over the death of Anna Nicole Smith, the newest makeover treatment and the rest of the dreck that passes for TV news these days? You don't need a knowledgeable person to report that stuff- just a pretty face. You can't tell me that's a Phoenix - only phenomenon. If, for just one example, you were to compare Brian Williams' newscast (which isn't bad, mind you) with what John Chancellor was doing 30 years ago, you would weep for the dumbing - down of America.
