Mitch Albom loses last affiliate

Down to just WJR. Not that I dislike him or his show, but it deserves to be a local show and his ship has apparently sailed. Remember when he was simulcast on MSNBC prior to 9/11?

Besides, if we can keep talking about a former host in market #148, I can talk about Mitch Albom. :)

I assume you're talking about our very own Mighty Blog of Fun(tm)'s item on the apparent upcoming changes at WEOL/930 Elyria OH?

I wasn't aware that WEOL was his last outside affiliate. Surely, some other station still runs him...?

I don't think he's losing a lot of sleep over this. Once Hannity started catching on fire, there wasn't a lot of room for TWO ABC Radio syndicated afternoon drive (ET) shows. He's still a fixture at WJR, and his national fame extends far beyond the radio syndication effort.

BTW, we haven't verified the Albom-to-Hannity swap at WEOL as of yet, but considering the evidence, it seems likely.

True, but with WEOL carrying Indians and Cavs games and Jim Bohannon seeming to be a fixture on the station, I don't know where else that masked man on www.weol.com will fit.

I'd have to agree. I'm just pointing out that it's just us putting the puzzle pieces together, and nothing's been officially announced yet. :) At least this time, WEOL didn't put Hannity's name in the graphic's file name...

It makes a lot of sense that it'll happen, not only for the reasons you cite above. Albom's syndication has been waning since ABC dropped it. I'm suspecting Albom's people were hoping for a regional play in the Great Lakes region, but there's just no room for him anywhere.

Most news/talk stations in the region that aren't doing local are carrying Hannity already, no? And down here, Clear Channel has a stranglehold on most of the state's talkers...and they don't carry Albom anywhere that I know of.

You didn't answer my first question, tho...is WEOL indeed Albom's last affiliate station?

Anyway, I'd be shocked if it wasn't Hannity at least 3-5, if not the entire show, starting January 3rd on WEOL. If they keep the 5 PM local show, I'd have to agree that Hannity gets the 6-7 slot for his third hour, at least up until Indians pregame and the like at 6:37 PM...

(BTW, thanks to regular OMW tipster Nathan Obral for his tip on this...he's posted his own take on it on the Cleveland board.)

Check the WEOL website now. It's official...and unmasked and unpixilated.
