Stars 97.3 is also playing back to back MJ. I have also heard songs on Kool 98 and 104.9 The Beat.
Mix 100 was playing all MJ up for a few hours through Billy Bush, but has since returned to normal format.
Not sure which one started it first. As of after midnight, Stars is still playing all MJ and sounds like they will for perhaps 24 hours. Mix played only the better testing familiar classics, while Star has also played some lesser known MJ songs that have since disappeared from the airwaves.
24 hours of MJ might be a bit much, but kudos to both stations for dropping the usual format as a tribute.

Just playing devils advocate here...
Does it hurt the stations that pay tribute to MJ because of the legal issues he had during his life? I wouldn't see it hurting a station that does maybe an hour but for some station that does or did 24 hours of MJ... do you think that would be seen as a negative by some listeners? I mean, the guy was accused of child molestation and of course paid a family or families off to end the issue. I know that he went to court etc... for those charges. However, there are of course many who believe he was guilty. Or is simply a matter of... that was then... this is now?

A guy by the name of DFW_Radio_2000 posted a response and I think he hit it right on the head. He said this:

With that said, I don't think it will hurt a station. I've heard that a lot of radio stations have been getting flooded with phone calls asking for Michael Jackson. I listened to Kidd Kraddick and Bobby Bones this morning, and numerous callers thanked the station for doing a show on MJ.
Now, if they continue to constantly talk about it everyday for seven straight days, then that's when it will start hurting the station. I'm hoping after today, stations will begin to let go and move on.

and also Hats Off to "Stars" for their 24 hour Salute to "The King Of Pop", i've yet to hear a Michael Jackson song or even a mention from the air people, on The "Classic Hits" Station in Lubbock KOOL98 and 24 hours after the fact, they finally got something on the website. A "Benchmark" artist dies and Thursday Kool is MISSING IN ACTION! UNBELIEVABLE!

Unfortunately, when you have a station or stations that are voicetracked etc... you are not going to be able to be on the ball. It will be harder for you to do something right then and there. I would imagine that was maybe the case with KISS 102 not doing something yesterday but doing an hour of MJ today at 5. However, they might have done some MJ yesterday, I don't know. Yet, with the stations not in the books... people are taking off, voicetracking etc... so you don't have that person to dump what they are doing and cash in on the moment.
However, what the hell do I know.

I definitely didn't hear Delilah last night on Stars.
I think they were having some kind of technical difficulty with Stars because I tuned in around 7 and there was nothing but dead air for awhile. They finally just went back to all MJ again eventually. I'm not sure how long they are going to stay all MJ. I believe 12+ KQBR was an 8.9, and KLLL was 8.1. The first and only time KLLL has been beat by another country format in Lubbock.
