Mix is a great sounding station that I hope stays the course...LIR classics abound in an all around great 80's mix.

Thats great. Now if LIR was actually ever a NYC station it would make sense.
Maybe next week they'll play some BLI classics. Isn't it time for a BLINK retrospective?

They are messing up a chance to be a great true dance station. Who needs a another station like ktu that is playing 80s pop along with dance music. I feel we are losing a dance station agian.

It just gets MORE frustrating for N.Y. dance music fans!

Radio is just imploding and they are the ones doing it to themselves. I've said it before and I will say it again...deregulation has killed radio since "competition" has pretty much been thrown out the window.

What made the original 'KTU and Hot 103/97 so special was the fact that they went out there and BECAME the scene. They were NOT afraid to break out new records and dance fans, such as myself and others here, were looking forward to the Saturday Night mixes. With dereg, the "balls" (that's just the best way I can describe this..sorry mods.) have been yanked out and for the most part, everyone is scared of trying something new (and I say the most part because Hot 97/Emmis, as hip-hop, is still up with what is going on and I could only WISH that the current 'KTU would have done this.)

Sure, we could all go satellite for our needs. We could listen to the Internet streams that respect today's sound of dance. You could all do like I do and get the latest European charts and download the music into your digital mp3 player. But then again, there are those of us that are "traditionalists" and want our music heard on "free radio". TODAY'S music. 2006, not 1976.

I originally wasn't going to do this because of the other alternative choices such as satellite, Internet or iPods, but if we DO lose either 'KTU, 'NEW or BOTH, then we'll just have to restart the Metro New York Dance Radio Coalition. In THIS case, it actually wouldn't be about New York radio per se...but for dance music to gain some sort of RESPECT in this country and make it known about what WE want for a dance music station (whether it be New York, L.A., Cleveland, wherever). And I would think for the majority of us, we want our dance music CURRENT. No diss to the past, a little bit of disco, 80's freestyle is okay in small doses. Let's just not LIVE there.

Party 105.3 is the only station around the region that GIVES dance music the respect it deserves; if only the FCC would give the same respect back and let them boost their signal!

Believe me Pete, (and for that matter, Jeffrey, since I know you are just as irate about this as well..and all other dance music fans that frequent this board) it IS very frustrating. 'KTU playing "Margaritaville", 'NEW getting into Duran Duran.

In some ways I wish those two stations would just end the pain and flip already, that way WE can get back into the game and demand what WE want out of our next dance music station.

Umm, no. When LIR was in its heyday (which just so happened to be when most of these 80's dance classics were still new), it had a rather sizeable audience in New York City (and Westchester and even New Jersey). That, and it "dared to be different." So your argument makes no sense.

They sounded great this weekend

Only if they played more 80s/90s dance dureing the week rather than washed up disco...

MIX needs to get some of its own ideas - repeating the same things other stations have done 1,000 times is not going to make them one of my favorites. Besides, if someone wants to hear dance music (any kind), there is already one KTU. NYC really doesnt need another one. I wish they would try something different - at least then they would be interesting.

It's as if the format never flipped! If anything, BETTER!

Pete, if I decide to start things up, I will let you (or anyone interested) know. I'm keeping it more Internet based, but if I start this up, I definitely would like for clubs, artists, etc to help in whatever way possible.

Just like we were in the 90's, the MNYDRC is TOTALLY grass roots. We made and will NOT make ONE RED CENT doing this. It's just for dance music fans to show a united front, especially when it comes to our music represented on the radio.

I think with what is happening with 'KTU or 'NEW, we should act somehow. At the very least to let these radio corporations know that dance music fans are serious and want our music represented right.

What's sizeable?? WLIR/WDRE or any other incarnation NEVER broke a 1 share
in any NYC book. In fact the 92.7 signal couldn't be heard in parts of NYC (Queens. Parts of Bkly and lower Manhattan excepted). That was probably WOBM in Tom's River and WKGL in Middletown you herd in NJ & Westchester in the 80's.
But yes..LIR did "Dare To Be Different".

LIR had a big enough audience to have separate hotline numbers for on-air contests in NYC, New Jersey, Westchester and CT. Never broke a 1 share? Consider that the NYC book also includes areas all the way to Central NJ and northern suburbs where 92.7's relatively weak signal was never heard. I'd love to have seen their ratings in Queens or Brooklyn or the Bronx where the station could actually be heard well. Oh, and the station had plenty of ads from NYC in its heyday. I doubt many advertisers would place their ads on a station no one was listening to.

Sorry, try again.
