Here is the link to Mix 102.7 WNEW online stream over at The Stream Centre http://www.thestreamcentre.com/search.asp?name=wnew I thought they didn't have a stream. Well we will see what becomes of the station in 2007. It looks like it might become 102.7 The River as CBS owns the website www.1027theriver.com. But who knows. Classic Hits 102.7 The River sounds good and may just work in New York.

LOL at any station in NYC that decides to call itself The River 
The Hudson River is indeed very famous...when it comes to pulling out floating bodies
Maybe they can also launch a station called Bridge & Tunnel FM. It can become the official new station for guidos, and will also be representing places like Queens Bridge (all the druglords and gangs will be sure to tune in), and the Holland Tunnel, haha.
In other cites, the river flowing through them is one of their landmarks. In NYC there's a million other landmarks that are of bigger note. Ever heard of this statue? I think it's called something like the statue of puberty ;D

It's interesting to keep in mind that CBS has also registered the domains 1027thecity.com and even 1027thebridge.com, among others.

I noticed that yesterday too. They need a normalizer on the stream to keep everything at one volume which was the problem with CBSFM's stream in late 2004 & 2005 after they changed the sound quality on the station. But, even if that is the case like you were saying, they still should leave the stream active on the player and not on a mute, thats wrong.
