MIX 102.7's numbers keep increasing!

In the central NJ book, they already *are* beating WKTU, by one whole point!

So, it's bad and good news for Infinity: the bad news is, CBS-FM lost more than half its listeners when it flipped to Jack. The good news is, a whole bunch of these former CBS-FM listeners switched over to WNEW.

Add to the fact why 'KTU is putting in more classic dance and cutting back on the new material.

But look how long it took Jim. Didn't happen overnight. As for me, just listening to my iPod and waiting patiently for HD radio. And if Hot 97 did a number "2" with current dance music, I am THERE :) At least Emmis does it right!

Thats because the overall station is much more listener friendly. The attitudes of the djs are superiour at Mix FM with them being down to earth regular folks compared to KTU where Egos run wild from the PDs down. The On AIr personalities are much more interesting and a pleasure to listen to from Paco Laveres, Paco Naverro, Michelle Visage, Joe Causi, Effrain etc. Brenda K Star is a doll on Sunday Nights but I must admit I tend to flip back from KTU on sunday nites from 9-11 cause Judy has been playing some new school freestyle (a sign to compete against mix I reckon. I dont listen to ktu from 11-12 even thought they play freestyle mix because that dj totally doesnt belong on radio. Other wise Mix is Number one on my terrestial radio playlist.

Listener friendly? That's one way of putting a personal opinion to make it seem more objective...Mix is looking for an older listener, so it takes a different approach. KTU, especially at night, is looking to skew younger. In a pure radio sense, especially for a station that is a CHR-Rhythmic (key word CHR)...KTU's on air talent runs circles around many of the MIx personalities. I'm sure everyone that is on air at Mix are great people, but Broadway Bill Lee and Vic Latino hit breaks tight time after time....Diane Pryor is more laid back fro the work day but still solid...I flip between the stations a lot, and I'm sorry but I've just heard too many on-air breaks done by Mix personalities that sound at about the level of a station in a market 100 sizes smaller...not a station in market #1...KTU invented this format (albeit with Frankie Blue), they have the heritage, and they shouldn't lose it...

Great! Since Infinity sees they are a success and may beat KTU then why don't they stream them already?

yea, I have to agree with you. I like the fact that MIX has more of a direction than KTU but their on air personalities do sound rather "smaller market". I thought it was just me.

KTU feels threatened by Mix. I can tell. Mix may beat KTU and maybe Mix will become the next "heritage". Who knows. But, everything has its time, even though KTU is far from the end.

I would disagree. They sound professional, are down to earth, and very friendly. Occassionally I call in for a request and they are nice (they have to be).

Ok, happy you got that out? You were waiting to say that weren't you? Well, you were actually right, others including myself were wrong.

Mix can do nothing but go up, they hit rock bottom... from there, there is only up! As for the staffs, I agree, KTU's staff is far more talented with its delivery. What Mix has got going for it is older people who like dance music, but don't live heavy beats or anything new, where as KTU, as a true "dance station" plays anything and everything dance.

Another thing that I've been saying for a few years is signal strength. I still say KTU suffers greatly from its 4 Times's Square Tower location and that the signal doesn't come in as clearly in many parts of the metro as it use to from atop the World and the areas where it doesn't have good line of site at anymore could be turning to a clearer alternative, but who knows, may be thats just my apt and car.
______________

I don't think they are, besides opening up the classics catagory to far more songs to drop repetition for its no repeat days. You can increase the amount of songs in a catagory without increasing that catagory's occurance in a scheduling clock. However, by allowing more titles into the classics playlist, they give the impression they play more, without actually playing more classics an hour, people just remember more obscure or forgotten titles.

KTU still transitions back and forth from the new, the house, the 90's dance and the old school classics, as they always have. People have been claiming on here since before Mix signed on, that KTU was playing more and more classics and not enough freshbeats.

Everyone has to remember the music scene of today is definately not the music scene of the 90's where dance tracks frequently climbed the charts. We haven't seen huge dance hits lately. That lack of newer dance options and being able to play something that is universally regarded as a hit has far more influence on what KTU plays, than just the idea of them playing less freshbeats.
Edited by JustinCase on 10/19/05 06:31 AM.

BINGO! Perfect answer, what I've been saying all along, not enough mainstream sounding dance records(which is why I've recorded "DanceFloor",released on Nov.1st,to RESCUE the dance industry)and no real stars in dance(which is why I've recorded,,,,etc.etc...!)
