Mix 103.1 Fort Walton Beach

I've been noticing that mix 103.1 has been down several times this weekend. Anyone in here know why?

This isn't the first time i've seen that station down for the count.

We've made improvements to the site over the last few months, including replacing the transmitter. This weekend, the air conditioning blew. Also the main breaker. I'm not entirely sure in which order. The air conditioning is fine now and we're on the air. Unfortunately, we'll be off for a short time tomorrow when we install the breaker. It's being overnighted.

You guys should apply for a 100KW license. Your station sure has "staying power" and a 100KW transmitter license would only serve this area better because down here, your signal is crap especially when tropo is up.

Since I've been here (in 2000) I've noticed that several stations have changed formats from 92.1 to 107.3 from 102.1. I've noticed that only 96.5 and yours have had shown true "staying power"

and this is part of the reason:

why your transmitter is there is beyond me. are you trying to cover the beaches and that's it?

(near Navarre)

Rob....You don't know the background of 103.1. The frequency is licensed to DeFuniak Springs and the transmitter site was determined by the requirement that the station put a 3.16 mv signal over the city of license. You also have to factor in the fact that Eglin AFB has a major influence on where a tower can be and how tall it can be in most of Okaloosa and Walton Counties... A station can't simply "apply for 100kw"....criteria must be met to insure there is no interference to co, 1st adjacent and 2nd adjacent channels on each side of the main frequency.

Hey Rob -- we at WSBZ The Seabreeze 106.3 have not been guilty of any "format hopping". We've been smooth jazz here since 1994. Along with Jimmy at WAAZ in Crestview --- I think that deserves some credit in the market:) Don't forget the remaining "independents" left.

Thank you Mark and Jimmy!!! Seabreeze is a great oasis, against the grain, for all these years. Glad you are well my friend. Gotta get back to the beach. Been too long. YEAH!

I do listen to you guys but your signal is crappy here and I'm a radio person. What's the deal with AAZ? I thought they were going to be at a new studio by now? Are they still in the process of the upgrades?

I still don't understand why your stick is way out in sandestin, if I lived out there, I'd be listening to XM or Pandora or CD's

Rob

CR - not sure if you caught the early years of Rob joining on this NWFL board, but it was certainly as compelling as good ole real radio in it's own twisted way. Thankfully, rob has learned so much that even Charlie has had to bow to the pressure of trying to outsmart robs ability to move radio signals around like checkers on a board.

Rob - sorry, why don't you call Jimmy @ WAAZ and ask him what the hell his delay is. He will speed it up, I am sure, just tell him who you are...(phone number, BR....got a pencil?...BR-549 <---- I think you will appreciate that reference, CR.)

Flip coming soon. Elvis is leaving the building.....

Flipping to what? Fly 92.1 keeps on teasing a big announcement and an "upgrade" happening on Friday @5pm. Could fly be moving to 103.1? That would make a lot of sense.

the only thing that would make cense is to put fly on 98.1 since highway is sucking in the ratings! i'm curious to find out what 92.1 will become.. maybe *** will buy it and put WFTW-FM and we can say holy crap!

Hi Rob --

WSBZ The Seabreeze's tower is adjacent to Sandestin Resort because there is a 106.3 FM (WKNU in Brewton, AL) less than 70 miles to the NW and another 106.3 FM less than 70 miles to the northeast in Donaldsonville, GA. WSBZ only has a small 1/4 mile usable area to locate a tower and antenna that wouldn't shortspace either of those existing stations. Coming in on the dial somewhat late (signed on in 1994) doesn't give much flexibility since the FM band on the Gulf Coast is packed with existing stations, all with existing protected contours. Think about it. We have more than 45 "listenable" FM signals in this market --much more than a larger market like Atlanta. (Isn't a shame most of them sound the same?) And....why move to Ft. Walton Beach? Unless you are sitting under Cumulus' transmitters in the RF heavy Hollywood Blvd area -- you should be able to hear us OK. (Plus ..receiver overload is a sign of a crappy radio) Look at the market. All the "money demos" are really east of Ft. Walton Beach.

More than 45 FM signals! That's a lot of signals for such a small population. I'm a big fan of your station by the way. Keep up the good work.

You know this happens right around spring break time every year, CCENG. It must be the call of the wild....beaches....bikinis......Captain Andersons..........gin....dammit.

Since Elivs Duran in the morinings and Ryan Seacreat in the Afternoons moves from 103.1 to the new Q92.1 what is Mix 103.1 now?
