Mix 103/Wave (FWB/Destin)

Is it me or is mix and wave sounding the same? half of mix's music is in mono and some of the new music WAVE plays is in mono (and before anyone asks.. the radio i use has no stereo mono switch)

is Quantum going to be changing the format of mix?
having two stations that play the same (or similar) music doesn't work too well with the folks. the "we play everything format" seems to be dewing very well, good work, Mr. Collins.
(i know you read this)

and Dan, this area needs an oldies station bad! (hint)
I don't know how well the other stations are doing. I believe Z96 is or was #2 or 3 in the ratings.

-Rob

I am glad rob is dewing well. Keep up the fight. Maybe they're both going mono to flip to Sports Talk to take
down that gang buster 98.1 Morning Show.

I wish they would reverse mix103 like it was in '04 when it was a rhythmic AC. Also
for a station that supposedly "Play's Everything" Wave102 sure is repetitive.

we have enough of that here.

92.1 and 92.9

what we need is a true oldies format.

-Rob

92.1 & 92.9 are definitely NOT rhythmic ac. I wasn't say we really need one. What
I meant was mix 103 is a boring waste land and needs a change.

103.1 should take up news/talk once WRJM flips to Country in a few weeks. Does Qantum have any talk stations?

The thing that amazes me most about this market is the total lack of understanding as to what wins and what doesn't win in the ratings. This is mostly directed at "out of town" upper management but there are prescious few "in market" managers who fully understand what it takes either...

Here's what he should do

1)change 103.1 to a news/talk/coast to coast am
2)make 92.1 an oldies station (or mix it with some of mix's music vs the crap that's on it now)

the mix format doesn't fly with 92.1.

This area is sorta of a wasteland on the FM band.

Too many country stations and not enough variety.
what's the status on the 98.1 sale? is quantum going to buy that or not?
Time for "the great 98" to make a come back

-Rob

Fly 92.1 is one of the top billing stations in the market. Why 'O' why would Quantum screw with that.
Oh because Rob doesn't like the music. Maybe we should turn z96 to hot ac while we are at it. As for
news/talk on 103.1 if true that would be great. We could use a good talk station, although im skeptical
whether quantum can pull it off.

Rob --- there was never a great 98. But, we get your point.
There was only ONE GREAT station on the Gulf Coast and it
was and always will be THE GREAT 108. (Although the wonderful
WXCR - 98one Classic Rock was a CLOSE second, selfishly speaking)
Nightcrawler -- You are right = one thing is for sure Quantum is ass-ured
to screw up anything and everything. Haven't heard the
one that Fly 92 is a top biller. Try Z-99Rock-Wolf and divide
those numbers by about 100. SBZ bills better than Fly (when
all is considered with the give-aways in the cluster)

98.1 Was "The New 98 Surf", it was always new, the entire time it was on the air. They also had a brief stint as a good Classic rocker. The "Great" one was WPFM 107.9, "The Great 108". The old guys on this board would be very happy if these stations returned to their glory days.

WPFM returned a few years ago. They teased the return of the "The Great 108", but it never matured. People have now given up any hope of another "Great 108". Everyone outside of Clear Channel has given up on Panama City.

If oldies were to become a profitable format again, I could see 98 Surf returning, they could probably pick up good ratings in FWB and Pensacola, especially with all the middle aged military folks around. Putting a format that isn't available in Pensacola on one of Fort Walton's stronger signals has to be a very good business move. It would more than double their potential advertising base.

Tibbs, we made similar posts at the same time.
Didn't someone claiming to have inside knowledge post that Qantum was out of the running for 98.1? I think they said Qantum was out of money and couldn't afford it anymore.
If Cumulus got 98.1, the smart thing to do for the FWB market would be to move Country 105.5 to 98.1, but 105.5 is doing fine where it is... why fix what isn't broken? Cumulus could put oldies or another unique format on 98.1 and sell it in FWB and Pensacola. Lord knows that the Q-100 sales staff could use the work. In your expert opinion, assuming Cumulus gets 98.1, what are the format odds?

Well I meant top biller for Quantum. Cumulous definitely controls this market. Athough
fly even with it's limited signal seems to be doing pretty well. Everywhere i go i hear it blasting
out of peoples cars. That whole deal with 98.1 is confusing.

Tibbs...it is understood that you were around when FM began..we get it...you were gods gift to the radio dial..impressed we really are....but if you are so perfect with your ideas and everyone is beneath you..then tell us what great station you run/own now..or consulting firm..etc..

you spout off that you know what stations are billing and you have no clue...so try not to insult the people that are still working in the market...and working in an era where 3 full time employees is all you have for 2 or 3 radio stations.

Look out for a brand new (as of last week) press release...i just got a copy of a new judgment in favor of QUANTUM big time on the 98.1 case...good for them!

Calm gate down OM...don't let Tibbs rile you. You are both right. Radio is much more challenging to navigate now but Fly's revenue IS just a fraction of what WZNS, WYZB and WKSM bill. HOWEVER, with all due respect to Mr. RIggs and Mr. Tibbs, 98.1 gave it a run for a book but was steamrolled by WKSM within a year.

By the way, are you an OM? I feel your pain if you are. Tough right now but real radio will return. In the mean time be proud that you are a "do'er" and not a never was or a wannabe.

Right on Buster...and i am aware of the billing within the FWB market ..OM?..yes i am...but that is besides the point...While Tibbs does seem to know a solid amount and im sure was/is a great radio guy...it is a WAYYY different animal these days...if programmers were actually alowed to program...it would also be different..but for the most part and not just in this market its all dictated out of market...so no need to attack local PDs for what they do...we all know how the game works these days...

WKSM is and always will be the powerhouse station in this market.

Well hang in there Rob. The great radio debacle is almost over. Unfortunately it has a little farther to go before it hits rock bottom. Once all the rats flee the ship BROADCASTERS will slowly begin reentering the industry and we can beging rebuilding. It has been a perfect story of greed, ego, ineptness and miscalculation. Don't get me wrong...some individuals have made tons of money on the way up and will make tons on the way down but theirs was never a model for long term success. At the end of the day it's too people dependant an industry to be successful long term in the current enviornment.

And...can someone tell me why the NAB still exists? Talk about a useless entity...
