MIX 104.5 KKMY Beaumont translator at 103.3?! WHY??

I drove through the Beaumont area today and noticed that KKMY is still broadcasting on 103.3, which is a repeater. I never understood why they did this, since 104.5 is literally a blowtorch at full power in the Golden Triangle.

KBIU in Lake Charles, LA now broadcasts at 103.3 and it cannot be heard because of K277AG-FM 103.3 MHz, which is KKMY. If you look at the coverage map for KBIU, it shows Beaumont is well within range.

I emailed Clear Channel Beaumont and waiting for a response regarding this matter. Just thought I would share or see if any of you guys know why KKMY does this.

According for CC in BMT, its because 104.5 cannot get into BLDGs good enough...REALLY?? Hmmm KKMY is a C1.....they should just move the damn thing to the Vidor antenna farm and make it a C1 instead of the low 500ft it is at now..
DUH!!!

103.3 was 1st put on by a former CC engineer (Patrick Parks who now works for Univision in Dallas) and was taken over by CC after Patrick left BMT for ElPaso!

Found out a few weeks ago, CC is lying on the 103.3...it is NOT a translator as licensed....104.5's main site was off the air...YET 103.3 was alive and playing....thats against the rules! That means it is NOT a translator but a LPFM on the STL tower in BMT.....not operating as it is licensed....
Shame on CC for that.......hopefully the FCC may step in and fine them for that...

Or they could give the thing to somebody else. BTW, KHCB has had a CP for a 250-watt translator on 105.3 in Beaumont for quite a while. Is anything happening with that?

Did the station really apply, or was it a third party? During The Great Translator Invasion, lots of applications were made specifying they would retransmit the signal of a particular station. Frequently, the named stations had no idea that they were included in a translator application.

Most of those applications were made on a speculative basis, and once a CP was awarded, the permit was up for sale to the highest bidder. Lots of people applied that way, including some major religious satillator chains. Locally, in Texas, E-String Wireless applied for quite a few CP's. Some were approved before the FCC imposed their freeze. I know of at least one that was sold. As far as I know, that was perfectly legal to do under the rules that existed at the time of the applications, but I somehow doubt that's what the Commission had in mind.

It really was Houston Christian Broadcasters, and the CP expires in September 2007.

And on the Great Translator Invasion subject, what a lingering mess. If I worked at the FCC and I had to help process all the applications, it would drive me to drinking. More.

Here hereb (hic)!! As to the HCB translator, it was supposed to be in Groves on the old 350ft self supporting Maritime Marine tower (owned by Pinnacle) but that tower came down during Rita and wont be rebuilt.....according to contacts, HCB has decided against the translator anyway....the distance trying to pick up 105.7 reliably was an issue from the start (since they were going to use a commercial channel, they could not go sat).

I suspect that is why the application process was frozen.
