mix 106.1 embraces new technology

A station known as My 106.1 has changed their name to Mix 106.1.

They claim that through use of new technology they will be able to allow listeners to decide what songs will play. Anyone have information regarding this?

Thanks!!! josh

PS: sounds like a great idea!

Yes. It's called a "request line." Listeners call a certain number and they let a station employee know what song they want to hear. The station employee responds, "We'll see what we can do."

Pretty radical, huh?

And even more radical (or is that ridicule)....It won't get played.

Or the ultimate insult, it wont even be a real human being answering the request line and saying "I'll put it on my list" (that was my favorite). I think a lot of stations are using answering machine software to record the requests so in the event they really do use one they can drop in the request as a voice intro to the song. Sorry Josh, they're onto you. ::)

Sounds like SAM Broadcaster...post the list of songs in the playlist and direct listeners to a website where they can "request" the song they want. The system will tell the listener if their request was approved or denied. If approved (request has to meet criteria/playlist rules) the request will be automatically added to the queue and played.

It's one thing too many. Not enough average listeners are deeply enough into music
to go much further than a request line.

The vast majority of your average listeners don't use the request line either.
