Mix 106.1 - New Technology?

mix 106.1 embraces new technology

My 106.1 has changed their name to Mix 106.1.

They claim that through use of new technology they will be able to allow listeners to decide what songs will play. Anyone have information regarding this?

Thanks!!! josh

PS: sounds like a great idea!

Will probably be similar to Jelli. But we'll find out tomorrow for sure.

I'd really like to think this isn't a gimmick, and it will be truly interactive -- but we'll see.

Listener Driven Radio allows listeners to vote up or down on songs, place requests, etc and the station gathers the info for programming purposes. Station controls how much effect the "voting" has on the playlist; from allowing popular songs to rotate more often, etc. all within the parameters already set within their music scheduling system (so an artist wont play back to back for example, no matter how many votes a particular song gets).. Has some neat features too such as alerting a listener via text when their request plays.

Which ultimately would have made the "My" name mean a bit more, but c'est la vie. :D

I was thinking it would be more like JUKEBOX radio with announcers. A Listener communicates over the internet he/she want a particular song to be played. Listeners want to hear their song now not over the course of a month.

Well its up now. Nothing big. You can make a request, thumbs up/thumbs down as mentioned, and a you pick the next song feature, which currently isn't running, but I imagine it will list 3 or so songs that could play next, and whatever one polls the highest gets played next.

Bah, already over it. The so called instant request isn't a real request. You can only "request" a song thats already in the thumbs up/down list, and you don't actually submit any request, you just vote thumbs up to have it played more (or down to hear it less.)

BTW, last night when I made my last post I decided to give their so called request a try, by randomly selecting a song that was on the list, but isn't played too often. That way if it came on within 15 minutes I could be fairly certain it was because of me, and not because it was coming on anyway.

Anyway, the song was big girls don't cry by fergie. I wasn't actually listening, and good thing, because checking yes.com, it appears I would still be waiting for my request.
