Mix 106-5's crazy playlist

11:00pm: John Sebastian - Welcome Back
11:03pm: Fine Young Cannibals - Good Thing
11:10pm: The Black Keys-Tighten Up
11:19pm: All-4-One - I Swear
11:26pm: Jane's Addiction-Been Caught Stealing
11:29pm: Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
11:32pm: The Jam - Town Called Malice
11:35pm: Christina Aguilera - What A Girl Wants
11:47pm: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Purple Haze
11:50pm: David Gray - Babylon
11:55pm: Men Without Hats - Pop Goes The World
11:58pm: Little Texas - God Blessed Texas

Here's an actual playlist from one given hour of what kind of music they're playing right now. I was listening to that station on my I-Pod, and it is getting to sound a whole lot weirder, and this might be a sign it will become a Top40 station come Monday...

It has been all over the place musically but it seems to be smoothing out a bit. One common theme from yesterday till this morning-90's music with a rhythmic lean.

I think it's a bit early to start reading the Playlist Tea Leaves.

As we start getting closer to Monday at 7:30 AM? Sure.

By the way, someone (not us!) has set up a bot on Twitter to send WMVX's songs out as they play (using the yes.com API, according to the account's info page):

Sure, we'll wait till Monday evening for Ohio SleepWatch to give us the scoop. :D

Just busting chops. Speculation is part of the fun........

Hey, CC is getting me out of bed at 7 on Monday. At least it's not 6. :D

Oh, no, I agree fully about watching the playlist. I just don't think you'll see many clues that mean anything until probably Sunday.

Its not entirely alphabetical but there is some theme to it.
Heartless by Kanye West into Barracuda by Heart.
If you scan the playlist, you'll notice many connections similar.
Its also on a loop. Right now the same songs are playing that played around 8pm last night.
I hope they put this much effort into the finished product :D

I was posting about this in the "MIX 106.5 Stunting" thread in the wee hours of this morning. So, it seems they're looping the same hours playlists over at different times, but not seemingly adding any new material. So if this continues thru the weekend, with the same playlists, - it seems they only have 10 hours worth of material that's being recycled over and over - it will get old by Monday morning's flip, and not keeping everyone's attention up.

Edit: I just looked at the new playlist, and it seems they're intertwining new songs in with what seems parts of the older hourly playlists, but wondering if the "new" songs are the ones that weren't showing up on the original yes.com feed. I'm using the Twitter feed now that someone posted.

I think with all the requests and feedback I am thinking its gonna be more of a jack fm type station

The only way Cleveland radio will improve would be for Clear Channel to leave the market. They've ruined Cleveland radio since they've been allowed to own so many stations. Changing 106.5 is not going to make Cleveland radio any better.

That being said, count me with the group that wants them to stick with what they're playing right now. It's cool, and it's original -- which, unfortunately, is why they'll pick some lame format and start playing that on Monday.

Frankly, I like the stunt mix they're doing right now. Kind of reminds me of my iPod mix, and I'm sure many other people's iPod mixes, I have new rock/pop/r&b/hip hop/country on my iPod (not as many polkas though) as well as a lot of oldies but goodies from the Top 40 days, some 40's and 50's, and even some country classics.

What gets me is their slogan "Cleveland radio will change for the better on Monday". Better that they're playing right now, or better than what they had before MixMas this year? Yes, maybe an "extreme Jack" format, "iPod radio", guess that's what they're doing now, without the polkas and classical, and old crooners, or as I thought maybe in the other thread, some kind of retro back to WXEN or WELW days when there was a real mix.

Doesn't CC already have a top 40 in Cleveland? Maybe a rhythmic top 40...

I'm streaming it right now, I kind of like it! Now THIS is actually a MIX! ;D

Should be interesting what they're going to put on Monday though...

There you go...

Simulcast WELW!

Polkas, Lake County Captains (YOUR Midwest League Champions).

Yeah Baby!

What WMVX is doing right now with their purposeful "train-wreck" mix is like most novelty tunes. It's way-cool and fun in the short term, but wouldn't last over the long-term.
