Mix 106.5's Saturday Night mixshow

nd2023

Banned
Tonight I randomly tuned into Mix 106.5 online for its dance-friendly mixshow, and it's not there. What happened?

TJ Roberts who did the show with Lou KoKo was let go during the cuts after Thanksgiving
I think he was trying to work a deal to come in and just do the show but he gets a ton of voice and imaging work from out of town...so he doesnt have to

I believe they were doing well from late 2007 to late 2008. The music selections were top notch, well not for a true dance fan but for a regular top 40 type of music. Mix 106.5 had two cancellation of weekend mix shows, and there from 2004 - 2005 and then again from 2007 - 2008. Let there be a true CHR/Top 40 station in Baltimore/DC to compete with Hot 99.5. Heck, throw a little bit of mix shows on weekends that goes longer than 99.5's broadcast from Fur Night Club. I would love to see that. Let CHR war begin again!

I don't think a full fledged CHR war (think Now vs Z in New York or Amp vs Kiss in LA) could happen between Baltimore and DC, they're just too far apart.

Nick, you are right about not a full on war, but this has happened before. You do remember Z-104 and 102.7 XYV right?

Baltimore and DC are probably the closest major markets situated next to each other in the country. A lot of times they're grouped into one mega metropolitan area for census proposes. Combined you're looking at a population of nearly 7-8 million people, ie the 4th biggest market in the country. They're closer to each other geographically then San Francisco and San Jose, which are both part of the San Francisco radio market. They're closer then Orlando is to Melbourne and Daytona Beach, which are all part of the same TV market.
Baltimore and DC could easily be turned into one radio market if there were some 100,000 watts signals to be found.

The stations from Annapolis have equal signal strength in Baltimore and DC. There aren't any FM stations between Baltimore and DC along 295. A class B station in Savage, MD could be city grade in both Baltimore and DC. There can't be 100,000 watt stations north of the VA/NC border (except Q94 in Richmond that's grandfathered).
