Mix 107.7 heads back to the 70s :-(

Just when we thought Mix had left behind the 70s, then they go and play "American Pie" and "Boogie Shoes" within hours of each other. I don't know of ANY Hot AC that still spins those two songs...AC yes, but not Hot AC.

Today is the day the music died, so that's why they probally played american pie

They play Boogie Shoes a lot because of Saturday Night Mix when they play it EVERY WEEKEND. Their Saturday Night Mix has gotten boring too because first of all, it's not even a mixshow, and second, it's the same songs every weekend.

lovejamminoldies, i'm with ya...every Sat. night when I hop in the car I make sure to flip from Mix to Fly...or plug in the ol' MP3 player. For the longest time it seemed like Starpoint's "Object Of My Desire" would play at the exact same time every Saturday night. With all the cuts at CC/Dayton over the last few years, i'm shocked that Saturday Night Mix hasn't gotten the ax, along with its host and DJ.

The purpose of that show is to:

A.) Make Money (Julia's pays for it.) and...
B.) Entertain The Crowd at Julia's.

They're playing music from a bar, guys. Have you ever been in a dance club? (Uh...don't answer that, Jammin! :) ) Most bar jocks have a "formula" they like to use. They have "sets" of music which they feel go together well to get the crowd up on the dance floor and other songs that send them back to the bar. It's the same songs..night after night. If you asked the jock in the bar, he's probably more concentrated on entertaining those in the club than caring who's listening on the radio. And for an adult nightclub (as opposed to a college dance club), new songs rarely work with the crowd. You play the tried and true over and over.

You mean people wouldn't if you played obscure and unknown songs like the 9000 on my iPod? :)

Most likely, Gr8t...yep. In fact, I've found in some of my previous years of working bar shows, the bar owner could even demand tighter playlists than commercial radio! :)

I didn't know Julia's footed the bill for "Saturday Night Mix"(No wonder the show has nine lives). I know a few years ago their previous host kicked them to the curb and they would broadcast from the Mix studios. I'm not saying play anything obscure, but there are so many upbeat tunes out there that they could add in a little more variety. It might make for an exciting listen at the bar, but for the listeners on the radio it's pretty boring. It's kinda like the difference in being at a concert or listening to a live performance on a CD, or being at an actual football stadium watching the game and watching it on TV.
ALSO...To my knowledge "Saturday Night Mix" hasn't really ever done any mixing. Hot has a Mixshow on Saturday nights I think. Years ago, Z-93 used to air the "Saturday Night Hotmixx" which was nothing but mixes. Personally, I don't like my music messed with and prefer to hear the original versions. If I was a PD I would stay away from mix shows.
