Mix 107.7 moving away from the 80s?

I've been listening to Mix 107.7 over the last two days and noticed a lot more current music and a few 90s tunes and an 80s tune here and there. Also noticed more and more CHR tunes like "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas, "Fireflies" by Owl City, and "Single Girls" by Beyonce. Mix is sounding more like an Adult CHR now more than they ever have. With 2010 almost upon us, it makes sense for Mix to start moving away from the 80s finally.

Single Ladies btw.... LOL... but I hope so because God knows with 945 being Prem Choice, we could use a good Adult CHR like Q102 in Cincy. Let's not forget to mention Jeff Stevens is a great guy and I think he knows what he's doing. With PPM coming up, he knows the direction he wants to take it. I wonder how many 80s an hr we're going to be getting. I think it's probably intentional to go more Adult CHR. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of 945 listeners come on board since the satellite switch.

I won't be surprised to see stations with loads of 80s in their playlist a) use it less often in the next year or b) cut it altogether. I predict stations such as the aforementioned 107.7 move from 80s to 90s for the low end of their year range and the 2000s being added up to around 2005 or so...however if they're adding in music from this year, the latter part of this could include this entire last decade.

lovejamminoldies...Yes, Jeff Stevens is a great guy and as a former CHR PD(Of DJ/Power 95)he'll make the necessary changes to keep Mix one of the big players in Dayton radio. As I have predicted on here in the past, I see the 80s getting left to Adult Hits and Classic Hits stations. Speaking of which, with Mix cutting back on the 80s tunes, it looks like Fly 92.9 has ramped up their 80s tunes quite a bit, which proves that my prediction is headed in the direction that I predicted.

Just another person who LOVES Jeff Stevens! Total pro, and probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. If you've ever worked with him you know what I'm talking about.

The question is, will the 80's come back when Light goes Christmas here shortly? I noticed when 99.9 went Christmas a few years ago, earlier 80's and even 70's titles were sprinkled in. Thoughts?

I mean, if they did... I wouldn't be surprised. But I think it'd be pointless considering I doubt the Lite listeners go anywhere. Lite usually is #1 in the winter books because of the XMAS music.

Except for last year...

I second lovejamminoldies in part. I doubt the loyal Lite listener base goes anywhere - and will also say this: One year doesn't discount several years of consistent data.

HOWEVER...we might see a trend develop this year with the early starts to Christmas music in Cincinnati and other cities. People may tire of it quickly.

It seems XMAS music just starts earlier and earlier every year. I think we have impatient Program Directors on our hands. Lite FM will be fine this year... I think during the holidays - perfect time for Mix to start to transition into more Adult CHR for the new year.

I noticed that starting with this weekend they no longer call their weekends "Whatever Weekends" but just simply the "Weekend Mix". They should've done this two years ago when Fly flew onto the radar. Mix still sounds Hot AC BUT I think the transition away from the 80s will continue. Let's not forget that whenever 94.5 is sold and probably flips that Dayton may have no Top 40 outlet in the market, so it would make sense for Mix to go Adult CHR to fill the void.

Damn, you beat me on this post. Yeah, I heard that this morning.... I think Weekend Mix is much better. I think Mix should focus more on becoming a Adult CHR-leaning Hot AC like Mix 1079 Columbus. Then if 945 flips formats, it leans more Adult CHR like Q102 Cincy... it should never go full-blown CHR... they have too much of a audience for that to happen. But Adult CHR, sure. The problem is now, they still play a lot of weak recurrents and they're not focusing on the hits.

Their "variety" is getting carried away.

Speaking thereof - just heard Q promoting their Christmas web stream last night while riding around Florence.

I still think that's way too early... Go Q102 I suppose. :)

I frankly thought all four Bonneville stations would. Not surprised about Warm 98, either. Expect them to go full-tilt Christmas in the next 7-10 days.

I'd assume after Thanksgiving.

Btw, Mix played Gaga's Paparazzi back to back with Already Gone by Kelly today.... VERY glad to see that.

That is the usual date, you're right. Thanksgiving night maybe, but for sure Black Friday...
