MIX 1079 officially Adult CHR

Mix 1079 has been adding more CHR tracks each week and leaving rap in songs... they've limited their playlist down to only one or two 80s songs a day and are leaving rap in some of their songs. Kudos to Mix for going after NCI!

Why on earth would Mix want to go after NCI with that compromised signal on 107.9? Put Mix on 94.7 and move Sunny over to 107.9 and then you have a more even playing field.
and move Sunny over to 107.9 and then you have a more even playing field.
Second that thought, Kudos to Mix for going after NCI but MIX is going to need all the help they
can get with that signal on 107.9. Mix will play less Rap which should appeal to some of the NCI
listeners or wannabe listeners.

Exactly. If you are a HOT AC station in a market where the CHR dominates and you're messing with a weak signal, you want to be as competitive with that CHR as you can. Make listeners want to choose you instead or as a 2nd option to WNCI... if you play Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and Rihanna - that's what you're doing.

LJO, is Mix 107.9 officially Adult CHR because you say they are or because they say they are? I'm just wondering if you stated an opinion rather than a fact.

Officially? If we're being technical, it's either Hot Adult Contemporary or CHR/Pop.
Adult Top 40 isn't an official format. You could say they've moved to a hotter presentation of their Hot AC format.

I'm not saying I don't think Adult Top 40 stations don't exist. WKRQ, WWMX, WBZZ, etc are all examples of stations that essentially play CHR songs but target adults 25-40 as opposed to the younger nature of CHR. Officially though, they are all still Hot AC.

That is the point I was trying to make. For MIX 107.9 to take on NCI, they would have to do battle on 94.7 and that would never happen.
So, its silly to claim that they are directly taking on NCI, with it's monster signal. MIX 107.9 may be trying to be an alternative for the NCI listeners that may not like all the Rap music on there. Just a guess.

BTW, Dose the 'MIX' term fit in with their new format adjustment? 'MIX' usually is associated with a AC format.

I have to agree on this, they are still very much a Hot AC. yes they have cut back on the 80's which are covered by Rewind, so they sound more current than before but as far as a top40 format goes there is way too many non current titles mixed in with the current cuts they are playing.

From Wikipedia (yes, I know, not exactly the most reliable source)

The origins of the Adult Top 40 chart can be traced back to the late 1980s, when several Top 40 stations decided to focus on playing artists in an effort to attract the more desired 25-34 demographic. In 1994, the Adult Top 40 became an official format after years of growth and support from both stations and artists. Most Adult Top 40 stations feature a playlist that include artists such as Lifehouse, Matchbox Twenty, Train, Nickelback, Goo Goo Dolls, Sheryl Crow, Daughtry, Maroon 5, Pink, John Mayer, The Fray, No Doubt, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morissette, Natasha Bedingfield, Jewel, Katy Perry and 3 Doors Down. Its programming is often compared to the musical playlist of the VH1 Channel (as its programming as seen often as a midway point between Top 40 Mainstream and The Adult Contemporary charts). Many Adult Top 40 stations today are a crossover of Hot AC and Top 40 formats, though it's officially classified as a Hot AC format.

Mix is an example of a crossover Hot AC/top 40 station... it is the alternative to WNCI listeners that get tired of hearing the same top 40 over and over. That playlist from Allfird definitely resembles Hot AC but notice you don't see any 80s and you see tunes not every Hot AC station will play:

Beyonce - Single Ladies is the best example here... but even some aren't playing 30 Seconds To Mars.

Mix didn't change their positioner for no reason... they WANT to sound like the "adult WNCI" - notice in some hours you will hear CHR tracks back to back like "Tonight" into "E.T."

Just my two cents.

WNCI dose not play rap music according to the WNCI GM, who was quoted in this WBNS-TV news report:

http://www.10tv.com/live/content/lo...on-onyx-club-liquor-license-wnci.html?sid=102

The general manager of WNCI said the station does play what is referred to as "mainstream rhythmic."

Then, what I mistake for rap music is actually "mainstream rhythmic" according to this NCI GM. So, WNCI pays plays absolutely
no rap music?

So, MIX 107.9 would be a alternative for people that don't like the "mainstream rhythmic" played over at NCI. MIX 107.9 dose
not have "mainstream rhythmic" in their play-list?

Mainstream rhythmic? That's stupid. It's right across the border, Mainstream CHR. The "rhythmic" WNCI plays are only songs that are rising on the Mainstream CHR chart. Power 1075 is Rhythmic-leaning Urban... and Mix 1079 is Adult CHR-leaning Hot AC. :) There.
