MIX 1079 PREPARING TO DROP THE 80S :: NEW POSITIONER

Went to the Mix site and noticed that the MAIN logo says "Today's Best Mix" now switching from 80s, 90s, NOW. Yeah, they still have sweepers in there saying the old positioner, and yeah you hear an 80s tune every once in awhile, but I think within the next few days, they should be weening out the 80s, 90s, NOW and we should hear Adult CHR along with of course new imaging promoting the new name. I already hear more of the generic stuff in now.

Smart move Saga!

"Today's Best Mix w/ Commercial Free Hours" such a smart idea! Also, the site is frozen with "now playing info". Somebody is working on Mix 1079!

Thoughts?

At least they're not stuck in the 70s and 80s like Mix 107.7 in Dayton is. They played "Boogie Shoes" and "American Pie" within hours of each other. Those tunes belong on AC stations, not Hot AC. Good move on 107.9's part to dump the 80s. Just imagine if a Top 40 station in the 80s played stuff from the 50s every day. It would've sounded out of place then...just as some 80s music does today.

"80's, 90's, 00's, Now" would be rather cumbersome. Besides, "80's, 90's Now" was getting stale. As xiradiodotcom pointed out they do seem lighter on the 80's today. Does that suggest that 80's will be completely gone before long? Maybe, maybe not. There are plenty of stations that use "Today's Best Mix" and still play 80's music -- sometimes more than Mix 107.9 has ever played..

Here's a question to ponder...

How can they say that it's "Today's Best Mix" of music when they don't play all of today's best mix of music?

Well, to be honest, the wording of "Best Mix" in this case is an opinion. Since it is their station, they should be entitled to their opinion. Your perception of "Best Mix" and mine or the next guy or gal certainly could be different. :D

I think they'll drop the 80s entirely when the new imaging gets in. Also, I look for them to add more safe CHR stuff. I think it's safe for them to just be an alternative to WNCI. Columbus needs a good Hot AC, and I think Mix is doing a hell of a job giving it to us.

I think the "Today's Best Mix/The Best Mix" is just to get to the listener telling them that WE play the best mix of music. If you want The Best Mix, come to 1079. I like how Mark Dantzer positioned it this morning. "Today's Best Mix 1079"

They want to get the WNCI listeners or the AC listeners to put 1079 on preset #2
