Mix 1079: Zooming In

So the new Mix 1079 has been up awhile now. Any thoughts? Whats it good at? What's it not so good at?

Personally, the signal is NOT as bad as everyone says it is. It's a problem and definitely nothing compared to 97-1 but it's something.

Also, the processing is much better on 1079. I can hear the HD.

Music..... not positive about yet. I liked the old Mix's Adult CHR lean. Giving WNCI a time.

Your thoughts?

I've noticed that they have HEAVY repetition on current hits and very little re-currents, and very little 80s or even 90s. If they are going to continue to be heavy on the currents I think they should expand it to the top 40, right now it sounds like they are only playing the top 20.

Reminds me of the old Mix. I know at nights they sound a lot different because of Billy Bush.

The old Mix was big on 90s and Now.

I don't understand why Mix just doesn't focus on NCI. I mean it's the only Hot AC in town but you're not gonna gain anything by being cookie-cutter Hot AC. Might as well get current.

Two points :

The signal is an issue for many. I live in Lancaster and if you like static keep it tuned to 107.9.
And clear down the downtown Columbus area............. Static.......augh!

Repetition is overboard here also.

I am glad to hear Mark Dantzer is showing up.

Are they able to strengthen the signal at all??

Another problem is Mix 107.7 in Dayton. Power 107 is another.
107.9 has always had signal problems and always will because of its location on the dial and all of the stations that surround it. I say screw listening to it on the radio and just tune in online.

No. 107.5 prevents any move to the south.

Ok- I know I'm going to sound like an a-hole for saying this...

107.9 doesn't have a signal problem.

It's signal contour is exactly as it was intended-

A 6KW radio station licensed to Delaware Ohio. (in the County of Delaware)

It will never be, and was never intended to be (at least by the FCC) a Columbus OH radio station.
But man what a helluva Delaware station it could be.

Amen. Preach it, brother!

The morning after 97.1 FM dropped HOT AC, I called Sagas and asked them if they were going to change the format of Sunny 95 to Hot AC. Since HOT AC is my favorite music, I would have preferred that the format
replaced Sunny 95 because that is a FULL POWER allocation for Columbus. I was told that morning that someone would step in and do the format. So, at least there wasn't going to be a void in the market for HOT AC.

107.9's signal sounds OK to me in downtown Columbus but of course I prefer the format to be on FULL POWER STICK!
I mean they could have decided to stick the Hot AC format on 104.3!

That's interesting. Do you think the music sounds better here on 1079 or better before on 971?

I think it sounds better. It seems to have more frequency range on 107.9 than it did on 97.1. Then again, I'm not hearing them side by side with the same songs, so it just might be my hearing is getting better.... Nah, that couldn't be it. ;)

Aside from the obvious signal deficiency, the audio quality blows away 97.1.  BNS-FM was almost as bad as Sunny on that count.  107.9 is kind of disappointing music-wise, but still better than 97.1 was.

That "flat" sound used to drive me crazy when 97.1 was Hot AC. Flipping past 97.1 the other day for about 30 seconds before I wanted to vomit profusely, I noticed the "flat" sound still exists there. ::)

I know we're getting off-topic here but I'm glad to hear that others noticed how 97.1 seemed to sound "flat." If you think they had a hard time processsing Hot A/C, you should have heard the Oldies format! It was also "flat" and due to the extreme variations in recording, mastering and mixing methods from song to song on that format, you never knew what you would get. Well, hey, they don't have to worry so much about that now!....even though the spots and promos sound "flat" as well.....

It did sound flat! 1079 can yell HD and we can hear it.... now, music-wise, I'd have to disagree. I liked how 971 stabbed at WNCI with some of its CHR-style imaging and the music was close to Adult CHR. I don't get that anymore with the new Mix.

Can such a smaller signal even DO that with credibility? (Oh, wait...we did that at Hot 105, and at Wild Country.....)
